Everything happens for a reason - Perspective

Whether or not you believe in God, higher powers, or karma - I hope you believe that everything happens for a reason.

This morning I was headed to church and my car wouldn't start. After 20 minutes of trouble shooting and calling both of my parents, I gave up on going to Church - but I was feeling stressed and guilty. When I walked back thru the alley, I found a discarded amazon box - my missing delivery from Friday. I was feeling so defeated. My mum, bless her heart, offered to come down (80miles) and jump the car. We were unsuccessful so we called AAA. I got to spend some quality time with her, so that was nice. About 15 minutes after she left she called me to share the story of how she met my homeless friend Harold.

**Harold "lives" in a cardboard box **on the street I walk on to get to school. I haven't seen him yet this year and I have been worried about him with the below freezing weather we have. I don't remember how I started my relationship with him, but I have given him items like blankets, gloves, coffee, dinner, lunch, water, snacks, and I even drove him to the Pharmacy once to pay for his insulin for him. Talking with him gives me so much perspective. When I think my life is "so difficult" I remember that Harold spends everyday out in the elements trying to get by.

My mum left here running very late for her event. She saw a homeless man on off MLK (if you have ever been to Baltimore, specifically along MLK jr Blvd - you will know there are so many!) and gave him the $20 she had intended to use at the event for drinks. She said his face lit up and he said "Thank you! I really needed this for my insulin!" She asked him if his name was Harold and he was surprised and asked how she knew. She mentioned she was my mom and He said we was concerned about me, because he hadn't seen me in a while She said that I was on crutches and he got really upset and asked if I was going to be alright. She asked how he was because I mentioned not seeing him in a while, and it turns out he had been very sick in the hospital - yet he was worried about me!

My mum drove 160 miles today so that she could have that interaction with Harold. That was the reason my car broke down!

Thanks for taking the time to read this. If you have a story about a situation that gave you perspective, Please share.

Very Interesting story and conclusion. Thank you for sharing that.

  • Aww, very sweet story, thanks for sharing!.
I absolutely believe everything happens for a reason <3

  • Wonderful story! Thanks so much for sharing that.

  • Living in the present means that I am exactly where I am supposed to be at this moment. It's all there is. Yesterday is gone and the future is an illusion. It's great that you were aware enough to understand what was happening and there you found a priceless experience. Hard to put words to when stuff like that happens. It gives us a greater sense of the love and purpose in our lives and the universe.

  • I don't really believe any of that except for karma I kind of believe some. Anyways, that sounds quite interesting and a good experience it's always to help another and to care for one another! Keep up being the caring person you are you all. :)

  • It is really interesting that he was concerned about you! Perspective is always a good thing to have, and so many people d have it. I even lose perspective myself sometimes, but thankfully I'm self aware enough to always regain it, or at least I think so.
