@FunCartel Thank you. No, I'm not a puppet regurgitating lines from some playbook, you don't have to resort to that. I've been around long enough to weigh both sides of the issue and reach my own conclusion. I see that you're close to my age; you've no doubt had the same amount of time to do likewise. No, I will not get into a pointless, unending debate on the CC forum. You want to sit down at a table together and talk, we can do that.
Yes, the climate changes. It's been doing that consistently since the Earth coalesced into existence billions of years ago. Sometimes it's a rapid change, sometimes more gradual. We humans cannot stop the change; we adapt. If we cannot, we go bye-bye.
And with that, my participation on this topic has concluded. Thank you all, even you @FunCartel . Have a good night.
According to @Tom2019, I'm dead. It's fascinating, because I feel pretty dang alive, but there we are: my lack of a sex drive makes me a corpse. There's no purpose to my life, Tom says. Huh. And here I thought having sentience meant I got to pick my own purpose. My life means a lot to me!
Meanwhile, climate change that threatens human existence, with no developed space colonies for humanity to escape to? Naaaah. Nothing to worry about there.
So strange how aggressive things get. Off-putting.
@tinc: I know, right? Here's me, just woke up and already folks are saying my life has no purpose. Wild.
I mean, it's not like I haven't heard it before. But dang if that doesn't actually make it hurt more, some ways. So many people seem to think it'd be better if I didn't exist.
Nothing on the earth, in the entire history of the earth, has remained more “stable” than in the last 12,000 years. That’s a fact and any superficial self study into paleontology will show it. Believing technology will solve the problem, is kool-aid. Stop consuming. Prosume instead. Target what you need, sacrifice all of your wants, then you will be in a position to throw stones.
@tinc Lots of people on CC have been through some kind of relational or touch or emotional trauma, and that's why they are here. I try to look at it as opportunity for healing, rather than taking their judgement and words at face value. I think it comes with the age ranges you find on this site. That said, probably not the right thing to open with in sessions 🤣
@Charlie_Bear Best way not to die, is to spawn a unique genetic code comprised of half of your DNA, and perpetuate yourself.
Speaking from a woman’s perspective, I have a superpower called a womb. No man has ever taken that away from me and in fact I need a man to activate its highest and greatest use. It’s that simple. We are mammals.
@tinc: Geez, ow.
Here's me giving you all kinds of links to data showing how the current changes threaten humanity's survival, and here's you telling me I can't talk until I stop buying Magic cards. I'm already poor and hardly buy anything! Can I point out facts now?
Your aggression is super uncalled for. Why so mean to someone who just got told (again) that their life is worthless because they don't reproduce?
No, seriously. Why?
Also, genetics are mutating at never before seen rates because of how much plastic has been seeping it’s way into our food supply.
Nobody talking about that BTW in all this “save the environment” talk. Save yourself. Make conscious choices. Don’t pinch pennies with anything that goes ON or IN your body. Vote with every penny you have because that’s the only way to send the message loud enough into the master computer pumping out all the poison people keep buying. Just my $0.02
@tinc ~ Sometimes it's okay to not double down on things that may be hurtful to others in the room. Sometimes it's okay to say something that perhaps shows another more appealing side to yourself to the company you've found yourself among.
Like here on CC, you could share that while you may have some controversial opinions, at least your cuddle game is well rounded/on point. Or that despite having some opinions that may make others feel a certain way, like everyone else here, you're all about the cuddles.
Unless you're not. Then, never mind I suppose and, carrry on... It was just a thought.
@DaringSprinter
Telling anyone their life has no value, isn’t even something that enters my thought process actually.
My apologies that you perceived it that way. I’m simply very connected with my mammalian self because my emotional self tries very hard to torture me as well. The struggle is real and I understand it deeper than anyone who’s never met me in person could possibly know.
@cde123 thank you for reminding why I landed here.
That’s a fact and any superficial self study into paleontology will show it.
Yup dinosaurs died from climate change. Paleontology does put that forward.
🤣
@tinc: I guess it is easy to overlook the implications of the things people say when those implications don't devalue your existence.
"The purpose is life is to reproduce."
I don't reproduce, so... this implies I might as well be dead.
"All lifeforms are driven by instinct to eat and procreate."
Same as above.
"Procreation and learning what you learn when you have another being literally 100% dependent on you for survival, is the deepest purpose life has to offer. It applies meaning to literally everything you do."
So life's deepest purpose is off-limits to me: my life has less purpose than my parents'. Who beat and starved me, by the way.
The implications—the logical conclusions of these assertions—hurt.
I don't blame you, since you didn't do it on purpose. But... don't do it again? Please.
Oh, wait... Perhaps those who say a womb is a super power are actually Satanists saying, "Hail Satan" ~ Well heck if so, that's okay then!! At least to me it is, because I'm totally down to have that kind of blessed cursed [super] power at my core!! 👹
yeah, no thanks
@FunCartel 🤣 I have a very light perspective on life, because I’m fully aware that I’m just a speck of dust and the only meaning to my life, is the meaning I give it (or not).
I have ZERO judgments about people that choose not to procreate, are not equipped to procreate, or loathe procreators. The less others want to procreate, only drives my own instincts to procreate MORE.
@DaringSprinter You never deserved what your parents did to you and it’s a travesty that our culture and society has “progressed” so far as to allow people like that more and more opportunities and resources to violate their own spawn. Despicable really and had I witnessed it, I’d have probably died working to protect you.
Have you ever tried Jiu Jitsu? Highly recommend it as a healing therapy. Getting out of my head and into my body has been the single most direct and effective way to heal my own traumas. And doing it surrounded by others who are trained to DEFEND (themselves and consequently others more vulnerable) is life-changing. Like a meditation practice.
@quixotic_life 🤣 yeah…blessing and a curse definitely! Exactly why I don’t mess with any others! Having been born with one is enough to atone for! 🥰😇😎🤩🤓
I’m fully aware that I’m just a speck of dust and the only meaning to my life, is the meaning I give it (or not).
@tinc I wholeheartedly agree. I prefer dust ball stud for myself personally
@tinc: Too logical for that, I guess. Yeah, I know karate and taekwondo and fencing, but so what? Doesn't change how weak I was as a baby, a toddler, a tween, a teen....
I'm the oldest of ten kids. My parents don't think they abused any of us. They just did what the Bible says, after all (with some extra tips and tricks from the Pearls). They'd absolutely agree with you that society's too progressive! Had you witnessed the beatings... I wonder. You might have agreed I deserved it. I know many people would.
According to you, their lives fulfilled life's deepest purpose: they had kids. And lots of them!
My life will never have that purpose. Any purpose my life may have is (according to you) shallower than the purpose my parents' lives have. Theirs have "life's deepest purpose," after all! I gotta admit, hearing that hurts.
Thanks for listening.
@tinc ~ I'm stealing that comic! Shoink!!
@tinc Haha I really should get around to that
@DaringSprinter I’d take your presumptions about my personal beliefs personally, except I’ve been exactly where you are and I know all too well the defenses you have put up around yourself and why. It took an incredibly hard fall for me to wake up.
It is for the exact same reasons that people hide their indiscretions with religion, that they do with any other ideology, new or old.
You’ve always been perfect, born perfect…and your trauma doesn’t have to define you anymore.
@Charlie_Bear Choose wisely 😅
@tinc: I guess I did assume. You said "it’s a travesty that our culture and society has 'progressed' so far as to allow people like that [like my parents, conservative Christians who cling to the fundamentals of their faith] more and more opportunities and resources to violate their own spawn," and I assumed you didn't realize that progress in society has actually made it harder for people like my folks to abuse their kids.
Whoops?
@DaringSprinter Some people just prefer to sit in their own shit all day every day. I know religious people that are like that, and anti religious people that are like that. Probably equal 50/50.
I don’t live my life by what society defines things to be, because I am a human and reserve the right to change my mind based on new information.
I also don’t place blanket conclusions on entire groups of people, because that is in my view the very definition of devaluing the individual.
You can define away whatever you want to keep working at discrediting the Good Will I wish for you. It’s a one-way street you’re traveling on though.
@tinc: People in every group can indeed take good actions and bad ones. Social progress helps along the good ones and makes the bad ones harder. I'm glad society has, to use your words, "progressed so far"!
I don't really understand what you think I'm saying. All I'm trying to say is that a progressive society isn't what allows people like conservative Christians (as one example) to beat their kids.
@DaringSprinter - I think there was a lot of miscommunication on this thread. I think the "progress" comment that @tinc made was sarcasm to note that she's appalled that as far we've come as a society that this stuff still happens. Either way, I don't see any malice from either side, just miscommunication imo.
@cylee1180: You think that's what she meant? Huh.
If she typed "it's a shame society has 'progressed' so much that abuse is easy" when she meant "it's a shame that abuse is still easy despite social progress," I can easily see how misunderstanding would run rampant through the thread!
