how do you manage your emotions when you read something that makes your eyes roll so hard that you feel like you sprained something?
Sincerely, there is a lot of good stuff on these forums but I could use some advice.
I find it helps to send PMs to others and engage in mutual (yet private) eye-rolling. No public arguments get started or enflamed, and it's very cathartic.
This is for non-harmful eye roll inducing stuff, of course.
I worked in construction for 13 years. I’m pretty immune to most of it.
I just try to remember that sometimes context and intent is lost on the forums, and there might be more depth to it than what I am seeing. Only time I really get road rage feelings is when I see people get super preachy and put themselves on a pedestal as though they are the moral authority. Essays upon essays of piousness and I honestly cannot get through even a paragraph of it all. Nobody in particular I'm speaking of, just a general statement.
I sometimes go to the thread gee golly I'm irked. Then you can speak in generalities or the one about patterns of threads that reoccur with time.
Am I the only one or do people think that they are the ones that are the cause of the eye rolling.? I don’t know if that’s a good or bad trait
@KozyKim: The way I figure it, everyone makes someone's eyes roll once in a while! I'd say it's a neutral trait.
@KozyKim I am sure I've caused many eyes to roll just by existing on here . You arent the only one . And for the record, I've never rolled my eyes at you 🙂
Just flip to another page or get up and walk to the fridge and grab something to drink and drink said drink and you’ll be fine after that.
@Ironman294 good point. Once you turn off the computer and walk away , the entire online world ceases to exist . Funny how it works that way
@pmvines - After a car accident or a negative work incident, you can turn away and never look back. That doesn't change what had occurred or transpired. A virtual medium can have its effects the way a phone call, letter, or real life experience can imo.
Since the pandemic had started, I had joined several online communities, and there had been a lot of full blown drama (all by adults and all virtual). E.g. - There was one lady who posted very often about her dog and relationship drama - the group proceeded to make memes about her frequently and even used movie night as an opportunity to mock her (some rom com that referenced her situation).
Another one involved a group chat where some guy flirted really hard with a woman, and then fooled her into providing a nude photo, then told another admin and talked behind both of their backs, and they were shocked when the two women communicated to each other (related to gossip and the nude photos).
Do I find some or all of that immature and irrelevant? Yes, but bullying and conning and breaching someone's trust can occur across many mediums.
That's my two cents at least.
@GreyingBear ~
Ugh! I think I did the wrong assignment...
Sometimes it helps me to recognize that I too am often the cause rolling eyes (easily multiple times a day), that because I know I've been misunderstood that perhaps I'm misunderstanding another, and that none of us here ever really has the full story or all the info.
In the grand scheme of things, I'm not the authority on anything, and only know what I know in any given moment, not to mention my opinions aren't facts and I was raised to question what I believe.
All that said ~ I'm a fairly flawed being and know full well that I've been a bit too quick to click 'send' (and will likely do it again), and though I don't intend to come off as a snarky bitch, I've re-read some of my trigger finger posts and just cringe.
I suppose the best way to manage emotions is to try and be forgiving of myself and others for having them, and for letting them overly influence the contents of a post.
It's the same reasoning for wishing I had a sign I could flip up in my back window that says, "Sorry about that. I'm the dumbass driver this time." Or something like that.
Whoops!! Were you asking how to manage your reactions when faced with the open display of nonsense as 'truth'? That makes sense. Unfortunately I have no ideas to offer other than to maybe note who it was and skip over their future posts... maybe?? Really, Idk. Please let us know if you unlock how to best handle this sort of conundrum though (if indeed that's what you're working on trying to figure out).
I find that practicing mindfulness helps with managing emotions and responding in a healthier way.

@SoulParaTodos 💯
@pmvines pretty much like a book that world exists only when you’re reading it but when you close it. It doesn’t affect you. I’ve eye rolled many a time 😊😝and maybe caused some eye rolling but as long as none of it’s hurtful but just annoying, no harm no foul.
Some great advice in here. I really appreciate it.
