Back in college I knew a woman who referred to people as "human animals." I remember being offended, which she flatly answered with "but humans are animals!" - hard to argue with that statement of fact! I don't get offended by people's choice of words anymore. These days I find it insightful.
How about..."Hey...you with the face!" At least It's gender neural 🤪
For every person offended by the term female, there's 50% the of population who aren't, if the word bothers you maybe it wasn't meant for you?

I see it as a solid indicator of exactly what the speaker means.
OP hasn't asked after women. After all, while most women are female, some women are male. Some are intersex. "Woman" is a broad category. No, OP has asked specifically about people who are female, be they women, men, agender, genderfluid, or any other gender on earth.
Points for specificity. Negative points for caring so much about a platonic cuddle buddy's physical sex.
Although he might have done better to ask after female women! Someone who cares so much about sex is unlikely to be open-minded about gender, especially after the two have been seen as the same thing for so long. Female women who love hugs are probably what he's hoping for.
...Not, mind you, that that would be any more appropriate a query on a platonic site.
@MxSmith - and @Sheena123 - Are either of you aware of any other terms that include both women and girls, or both men and boys? Some, it just doesn't seem appropriate to call an 18 year old boy a man, or call an 18 year old girl a woman. Actually, I think that many 18 year old girls are offended when called a woman. "I'm not that old."
Until we have better, more inclusive words, "male" and "female" may have to suffice.
@GreatHornedOwl: It's times like this I'm glad this is an adult-only site. Children of any gender aren't on here, and so we don't have to take them into account when addressing one another.
Though I suppose 18 does seem less than adult once you get far enough away from it! I'm still close enough to 18 to remember wanting to be seen as an adult even three years earlier. Perhaps it's different for people who aren't agender—maybe they want to stay young longer.
Whatever the case, I see legal adults as adults: men and women alike. We're all grownups here.
The use of the word 'female' to mean 'woman' is something we don't have here in the UK, and although I had heard of it before coming to Cuddle Comfort this is the only place where I encounter it regularly.
I have observed that use of the term is almost invariably followed by one of two continuations. Radio silence; or (eventually) a derogatory tone or remark about women. This leads me to believe that the term tends to carry - consciously or unconsciously in the mind of the user - a derogatory meaning.
There is also a high correlation with poor grammar, which leads me to believe that its use is associated (although not exclusively) with people who are poorly educated. This is not surprising, because using it to mean 'woman' is an example of poor grammar before you even start to consider the question of meaning.
Anyway, @jdfun welcome to Cuddle Comfort. There are many women in California who love cuddling and hugging, and I hope you find what you need. The forum can be a bit rough and tumble it is true, but I've learnt a lot here.
I can't imagine a 18 year old being like don't call me a man, I'm still a boy. Or women saying that either.. maybe with being called ma'am, or young lady.
