I think liking posts invites the possibility of unintended negative consequences.
Liking posts can lead to people writing them in particular ways, or perhaps using or avoiding certain buzzwords, in order to accumulate likes. While that can happen now, holding out this carrot exacerbates the tendency.
People might be more likely to like posts by people they know or names they recognize. I'm not suggesting that this would be a conscious act, or that they wouldn't also like posts by strangers. Just that there would be a tendency in this direction, if only because they would be more likely to read posts by people they know in the first place. For instance, more than once, I have seen an interesting point made by someone who isn't a regular here be ignored until the same point is made by a familiar face at which time it garners group approbation. Probably not conscious, and probably with no ill intent, but a fact nonetheless.
With posts rated, some people, not all, but some, who now read or scan every post would take the easy way out and only read those that have been blessed with majority approval.
Although liking a post is not technically an endorsement of content since people could like a post because, for instance, it was well-written or presented a reasoned argument, in the real world who's gonna do that? Even if a like button isn't meant to use used or interpreted in such a fashion, it would essentially rate the content. That means that worthy posts that aren't in lockstep with the majority opinion could be even more marginalized than they are now.
If CC was the size of Facebook, perhaps a guide would be needed to help navigate thousands and thousands of posts. But CC is so relatively small, that I think collectively, we lose more than we gain by providing affirmation that some will use as a shortcut on what to read or ignore.
My suggestion is a favorite button … zero to do with ego, everything to do with sending a message to pros or enthusiasts that you’re interested in booking and/ or possibly cuddling … doesn’t have to be public , infact make it so it isn’t public at all whatsoever besides the 2 parties … this will help a great deal in establishing a mutual interest … I don’t have web data, but going by the forum and threads, people get annoyed when they send a well thought out message to someone and get no replies, and others get annoyed when they click on a pro profile and get solicit when they aren’t interested … speaking in general for both scenarios. I think doing so will add tremendous value.
Edit: I meant get notified when someone favorites you or they get notified when you favorite them as there’s already a favorite button.
@homeboy I agree. A like button would inadvertently derail threads more than nearly anyone trying to derail on purpose.
