@Midnight01 For "Judge Judy," it's my understanding that the cases are real, but the litigants are often played by actors. But perhaps different court shows follow different rules.
With all these court shows by agreeing to have the case on the show, even if they lose the case, the show pays the plaintiff. But the plaintiff and defendants are real and not actors. Jerry springer used to have actors once he got super famous. Prior to that he had a semi-serious show with real topics.
@Ironman294 - Talk shows used to be somewhat intellectual with a variety of topics. Now it's just people fighting and arguing over who cheated on who with whom.
I had many cuddling experiences before but never with a “furry”. For the right amount of money 💰 I may consider becoming a pro and having her as a client hahaha! 😂🤗

That one line caught all my attention and that judge was dead on the mark in correcting the plaintiff. If you are paying for a cuddle, it is a business. We toss the word platonic around to mean non-sexual here on CC, but platonic infers emotional involvement.
Paying for cuddles is not love, friendship, companionship or platonic. It is superficial involvement. I hear people referring to professional cuddling on this site using unrealistic relationship expectations and terminology.
It could be over time as cuddle culture approaches critical mass that a new definition of platonic evolves along with the popularization of professional cuddling.
I agree with the judge on that opening statement.

I get your drift and was firmly in your camp when I first started hanging out here. But the prevailing attitude seems to be that the engagement of a pro is no different than a doctor, priest, caregiver, non-sexual escort, or other paid person who isn't a "friend" outside of the professional relationship. That is, they know how to do it. They know how to be appropriately empathetic. I've never been with a pro (or even an enthusiast for that matter) so I can't personally attest to the reality of that notion. But plenty of other people here have come away satisfied. So, unless this entire website is a Matrix-like reality created for the purpose of snagging my credit card, for the moment, I'm at least sipping the Kool-Aid that pros provide a service that while not friendship, isn't superficial either.
@homeboy At best companionship, but when the money is gone so is the cuddler.
With pro cuddling, as a client, you have the power to select somebody to cuddle. If you pick somebody you wouldn't naturally connect with, then chances are you won't have a lasting connection. Yet, you can still enjoy learning about somebody you might never meet otherwise. Just lean into the learning aspect.
@Midnight01 the cuddler seemed to be a straight shooter, so not exactly sure what’s up. She doesn’t strike me as a furry, but who knows her costume seemed authentic. I would cuddle with her lol.

It's interesting, I think some of the court shows at least have some connection to reality - the litigants are real people with a real case, even if some aspects are played up for TV. But this one seems to be completely fake.

@PeopleLikeUs "Consensual" has a vaguely sexual ring to it. Without the "platonic" might "consensual cuddling" be confused with "foreplay."

Consensual gets used to describe agreement in a variety of relationships including business. Consensual cuddling states clearly what people are consenting to while at the same time clarifying what it's not.
But I see what you mean by sensual as it pertains to sex.
I wonder if "platonic" opens the door for unrealistic expectations in a pro setting.
Companionship is the sharing of an activity. Friendship is the sharing of emotion.
When the people involved venture away from a professional setting and start to voluntarily care more about what they feel and why they feel it, friendship then comes into play. Pro cuddling may be a friendly activity, but it's not friendship. Not until uncoerced, free flowing cooperation of all parties occurs does a friendship start to take place.
The judge here knew to state up front that this interaction was not platonic.
This was a fun one to watch because judge Mablean 👩🏾⚖️ is my favorite judge of all time, she is so entertaining, personable and cut throat …. Of course judge Judy is right behind her on the list.
In fact there was a judge Judy episode where a man was suing a professional cuddler who never showed up for a session but she refused to give the client their money back after he paid upfront, claiming she had a family emergency so she couldn’t make it but felt she was entitled to keep the payment given. The woman was too embarrassed to say out loud what she did for work, then of course judge Judy started pressing her to say what she was and the woman finally said she was a “professional cuddler” believe it or not that’s actually how I found out about this line of work and the cuddle community. I was so amazed that it was a way someone could make a living/income since touch therapy is not actually a tactic used in mental health and drug rehabilitation facilities. For in fact it is heavily deterred and illegal/against protocol to be unnecessarily hands on with our patients or to touch them without the need of providing medical or safety prevention and wouldn’t only get a counselor/therapist fired but would get our license pulled to where we couldn’t work in the field anymore. So finding cuddle comfort and being able to bond with clients and share platonic touch was a major shift for me when I started, but of course now I love it !!!
After hearing the lady say that was her line of work I was so curious about if a professional cuddler was really a job someone could do, then lord and behold I found cuddle comfort and joined 😃 so much we can learn from watching judge shows 🥰😂

Plot twist: neither party are what or who they say they are. Instead, they are both actors. Playing their parts of the “real” individuals for whom this actually happened to.
I can't watch these types of shows anymore. They are designed specifically to mock people and get some of the more gullible viewers (my retired parents who sit around the house all day and do nothing but watch TV) to have a false, twisted sense of what the current generation is all about and makes them hate and judge them. (these kids today, etc)

The rare, exceedingly rare, good show on television has to be nearly perfect, which is hard to do. (Ted Lasso, the Wire)
When I was caregiving I was watching cooking shows (and “Survivor” shudders) because that’s what she liked to watch.
I sort of mentally filed cooking shows under documentary, but can’t stand “competition” cooking shows. Survivor, but with mustard…
