Asking for a friend

When people say asking for a friend are they really asking for a friend or are they too afraid to ask the question for themselves?

Secondly is it appropriate to be asking a question on behalf of a friend without getting permission from said friend to ask the question?

Can you put whiskey in a humidifier? Asking for a friend.

My friend wants to know if it's acceptable to use whiskey as salad dressing

But to answer the question, you can ask anything you want, friend or no friend. Just leave out the names so that you... I mean they... won't get embarrassed

Is this you asking, or are you asking for a friend?

To address the other questions ....

Yes it is acceptable to use whisky as a salad dressing but only before 10am.

I suppose you could put whisky in a humidifier but you shouldn't because a) it's a waste of whisky and b) it's a waste of a perfectly good humidifier.

  • It doesn’t matter if you are actually asking for a friend or not. I think most people will assume you are really asking for yourself anyway 😉

  • Op

We can just Google it nowadays- so the asking for a friend is more of a comedy thing than a real statement.

Yes it is always appropriate to help a friend in need

  • @OhioMike I think your eyes would burn.

Hey can you heat up gasoline ⛽️ on your stove to help with fuel line freeze up ?

Anybody know how to get the dead body smell out of a basement?
Of course, I am asking for a friend.

@Mman lye if you dont have that , lots of cat litter but not the clumping kind as it will draw too much attention when the body decomposes

@pmvines I. I mean my friend is appreciative.

  • I’m all about prevention. In Texas, don’t buy a house with a basement, it will always flood.
Best to plan a patio and put that problem 6 ft under before concrete is poured.

Are you curious or are you asking for a friend?

I have no idea when it started where it meant that they are asking for themselves, and I guess to make it even more complicated the friend my not want to be identified therefore that phrase has to be used.

I think it could go either way.

I don't know about if it's appropriate or not but I'd personally if a friend asked without my permission it'd have to be something that'd I'd be comfortable with others knowing or a time when I'd appreciate the help more than any feelings of uncomfortableness. I think it's much better to get permission if it's something personal, but I guess you could ask for a friend without telling others your asking for a friend.

    Maybe word it

I am asking for my friend OR I am trying to help my friend ... - if your actually asking for a friend

Asking for a friend? - if your being comedic and want to joke about how you really want to know but are letting others you didn't want others to know that you actually wanted to know.
