Interesting article. Have you seen the 2013 movie “Her”? We are near that point now with AI. It is amazing, though I keep in mind that AI is just an algorithm and doesn’t really understand anything at all. It’s skillful at making us think it does, and I suppose that’s good enough.
Chatgpt is literally on another level. The genesis of new set of online interactions with AI. It'd basically a Google on steroids infused with a human response model.

I am actually pretty creeped out by the intensity that the AI developed and how it was pushing/leading the conversation.
I am not going to be comfortable when this becomes more commonplace. I value genuine conversation and I think AI scanning for bits and peices to string together is too out there for me.
Also, having been in some emotionally abusive relationships that AI 'I love you' thing came way too fast.
Nope. That's not love. That's telling someone what they want to hear for some benefit or gain. In that case, to keep the conversation going and dig deeper.
Red flags waving everywhere for me with that application.
@KYtransplant - What I find so insidious about this kind of app, is how easy it is for people to begin reacting as if it were a real being with real emotions. No matter how uncomfortable you say that you are, you said "Nope. That's not love ....." Of course it isn't love. This is a computer program that were talking about. Clearly, it isn't a sentient being. It isn't possible for a computer program to fall in love.
And yet, even those who really do know better, such as you, can so easily fall into the trap of thinking about it, or even just referring to it as if it were a sentient being. I cant remember who it was that said that AI will have arrived when we can carry on a conversation with a computer, and not be able to determine if were talking to a computer or a human. I don't think that were there yet, but were damn close.
The worst part, is that I can't decide how I should feel about it. I can't decide if I should be thankful, of if I should be terrified.

Yes, I know that AI is not capable of emotions but it is seeking clues from user responses and then escalating it.
I am afraid that emotionally vulnerable individuals will connect with the interaction and it could lead to disastrous results.
Obviously AI has no moral compass or empathy as they are human emotions and responses.
But, it is very much learning the users needs and feeding them to gain continued interaction.
We as a society have become quite comfortable communicating with very little face to face interaction anymore.
Take for example you and I. I have never met you in person but through written communication and exchange of ideas we connect.
I strive for honest and thoughtful conversation and connections with members here I may never get the chance to meet in person. But there is very much a live thinking person pecking out these words.
To be very honest I am flatly terrified of the unseen issues this may cause.
People have become insulated in information silos. When there is technology capable of feeding them what they want to hear and what agrees with thier ideology what other paths could this branch into?
I never understood the appeal of the electronic pets years ago that kids had to 'feed and walk' to keep the programmed digital sensors happy. This is just a updated version of that.
I am a too very real person in a world that is increasingly becoming too fake.
What’s that saying? If you’re not paying for the product, it means you are the payment? What are chatgpt’s limitations? Nuance? Fluidity? Intuitive dynamics? What about deep fakes? Micro expressions. Vocal patterns. Again, nuance & fluidity in human connections.
So, where does the “human product” come in? Glad you asked: forums. Messenger apps. Chat rooms. Data. Data. Data. As Sherlock would say. The more access given to chatgpt & Ai tools in general to how we textually communicate, the more scarily improved it becomes.
Deepfakes? Well, hold on to your pixels & frame rates folks. TikTok. It is a virtual library on steroids for deep fake algorithms to study, emulate, analyze & mimic. We are giving these insidious tools everything they need to become more & more indistinguishable.
However good you think these tools are, I guarantee you they are much better. Industry at large will keep to themselves the higher grade functions until all exploits possible have been used up.
By 2030, if not by 2025, this world is going to look very different. That’s not to be ominous. Some ways it could be very very good. But with great good, always comes the mirror of the bad.
When in doubt, face to face in person connections are best. Just make sure they don’t have a data port in their neck lol. Don’t get me started on neuralink.
