  • @jimboslice5014 other than dating apps you can look for social activities.

    You can look for bar crawls in your area, Speed dating events, social gathering some apartments and neighborhoods do. Join clubs with activities you enjoy and see if someone else is there. Examples take an art or cooking class. You just have to get out there and make a effort. Much harder to find someone with the same intent why dating apps are normally the go too.

  • @jimboslice5014 what are you looking for in meeting these new people?

  • It's not the apps, it's the people that use them.
    They seem to be full of people who just want to hook up and not actually.... date.
    That, and scammers. So many scammers on both sides. I wish the world wasn't so full of them.
    And if you don't meet the"ideal"? Even worse.
    Also, a playground for serial cheaters. So much no, I'm not going back lol
    Good luck out there!

  • Dating app experiences can be good or bad (or somewhere inbetween)... but that doesn't mean YOU are good or bad. I know several people who have found their long term partner and so, for them, they felt the time/effort was ultimately successful.

    I spent the last 4 years on various dating apps but ultimately was not successful in connecting with a long time partner.

    The experience, or the apps/people I met, cannot make me feel any specific way unless I allow it/them to. If I want to feel bad abt it, sad or frustrated... then I certainly can feel that way.

    But I did not go into that experience with any specific expectation. I was hopeful, but not expecting. So my experience was just an adventure containing some highs and some lows.

    I met my ex in 2004 through eHarmony, which was very different at that time. You had to communicate with someone in three different formats before you were allowed to see their picture and you only got sent people who matched up with your personality test. (And though the marriage didn't last, we were together 7 years and brought a beautiful daughter in the world).) Nowadays, it's a meat market like all the others -- they send you everyone in your region and it's pretty much all based on pictures. I did find it had fewer scammers than Match and OkCupid, which are just loaded with them.

    And, yeah, it's loads of rejection by complete strangers, so if you don't want to deal with that, stay away.

  • Dating apps make me feel like shit!

  • If you're looking to meet new people, I suggest MeetUp.com 😊

    I’ve given up on social media. If I don’t meet someone in the normal course my day, I’m not interested otherwise. It’s too much effort. I like interacting face to face and communicating. I tried dating apps and it was just not a fulfilling experience

    I meet people by running up to them and pretending that I'm their long lost cousin. I've only been punched in the face twice

    And no, dating apps don't make me feel bad because I'm not on them

    Met my husband on OkCupid 13 years ago… would I get on one now if I was single?

    Probably not… for all the reasons already mentioned above.

    I mean, this isn’t for dating and I’ve already gotten several messages that I’m sure are fishing to see if they can get more… No, thank you. 🙅🏽‍♀️

    If I ever get divorced, I’ll most likely stay single unless I met someone in my daily life. I don’t have the energy to “date”.

    I’ve tried a dating app. It’s interesting to get mutual likes, but that is as far as I have gotten as my anxiety prevents me from actually reaching out 🫣

  • @Charlie_Bear Just reach out. So many people on here like you for you and you are likeable without complimenting every single person you meet on here. You have a gentle way about you that comes across as very sincere and I know some lady would be thrilled to have you. I mean that and I think there are people reading this who would concur.

    @FunCartel 100% agree. 🥰

    my own dumb brain likes to sabotage me into feeling as insecure as one can get

    @Charlie_Bear when I met you I thought to myself ya know if I were into dudes , I'd be into this fella

  • Are there any state parks near you. Most state parks have a Friends of ...... State Park organization that is always needing more volunteers. I served on the board of directors of one of them for 10 years, and can tell you that many of the volunteers become good friends. A fringe benefit would be that the men are usually outnumbered.

    If that isn't interesting, pick something else. amateur theater groups always need more volunteers. Even if you don't want to act, they will need stage hands, set designers, and many others. Just imagine how badly the male volunteers at any hospital are outnumbered.

    The possibilities are endless, and you will even end up doing some good.

  • @pmvines
    Omg I just laughed waaaaay too hard at that 😅 ty my friend 😂😂😂

  • @GreatHornedOwl I love your ideas!

    @Charlie_Bear Listen to @FunCartel, you're awesome sauce.

    Now, who wouldn't want to cuddle @Charlie_Bear ?

  • @Charlie_Bear you seem to me to be a likeable enough fellow. Just send the damn message, then forget that you've sent it. It's unlikely they will reply anyway, people mostly don't. And if they reply, what's the worst that can happen? (Well ok it's have whirlwind romance full of fun and joy followed by a blissful cohabitation and marriage, deteriorating over the years into bitterness and hate governed only by the mutual unspoken knowledge that divorce will be so horrendously expensive that it won't be worth it and thereby condemning yourselves and each other to living out your final decades in a spirit of misery and despair. But that's all that's all that most people are hoping for anyway, so you might as well go for it.)

    Dating apps - So many people are not willing to get to know someone and base a lot on what they see both in pictures and the profile. It can be discouraging to not get the likes and responses that one would expect.

    As others have mentioned, there are events and classes you may be able to attend to meet people more organically. You can also look for enthusiasts groups and clubs of things you enjoy doing. I attend game nights occasionally and have made many new acquaintances that way including a few good friends!

    @Charlie_Bear I feel you on the anxiety and insecurity at being the first to message. I have been pushing my comfort levels in this regard both in messages and in person to try to initiate conversations more.
    If you messaged me on a dating app, I would totally message you back. I am agreeing with the others that you seem like you would be a fun and amazing guy to get to know.
    Just write a message, take a breath, and smash that send button then go about your day. If you get a response, great; if you don't, their loss because they are missing out on someone who gives, what I assume is, great cuddles.

    Both of you take care and good luck!

    @LadyVel Very thoughtful post.

  • @SunsetSnuggles @Mman @CuddleDuncan @LadyVel
    Ok you all really do have me blushing now. I much prefer making friends on here. While I am not confident in myself in regards to dating, I am very confident in my ability to being a good friend ☺️

  • @Charlie_Bear I’m ready and all dolled up. Let’s go!

  • I'm sorry guys, but get in line with @Charlie_Bear - AFTER me, okay, much thanks. Having met him in person at the Vegas meet and greet, I can vouch that he is a legit and superb human being.

    Dating apps? No. I'm more of a "meet people in the space where you may share the same interests" kind of guy. Cooking, yoga, art classes. Fantasy or at-stadium football/baseball gatherings or groups. Bowling. Beer/pub and axe throwing. Drag bingo. Brunches. What I'm getting at is you can meet people anywhere, but step one is getting OUT there. Dating apps don't do that, they're an illusion of connection, and frankly click bait. It's a big offline works out there. Go forth and explore. The laws of social quantum physics state that like DOES attract like. So go attract.

  • @FunCartel @Sideon
    Ok this is more interest than I have ever gotten anywhere in my life and we are not even on a dating site 😂😂😂 I appreciate the heck out of you, and I apologize to the OP for the temporary derailment of their thread 😅

  • Eveyone getting to this thread late

  • [Deleted User]Mman (deleted user)

    Speaking of attraction. I sat at the bar last night next to a ventriloquist. I heard her say " you're attractive". I couldn't tell if it was her or the beer.

  • @cudbud64
    ☺️😂🥹

    @Mman
    Hahaha I envy your bottomless well of jokes. Also, it was her for sure ☺️

  • @cudbud64 😂😂😂

    @Charlie_Bear Confidence as a friend is excellent. The best/most long-lasting relationships start as friendships, in my experience.

    @Sideon If I'm in line behind you, can I check you out while we wait? 😉
