🌎 Disguised as a man so she could travel the world exploring her passion for botany on a French navy ship, Jeanne Baret became the first woman known to have sailed around the world.
🌎 Pretending to be his valet, Jeanne joined her fellow botanist and lover, Philibert Commerçon, on board a three-year global expedition sponsored by Louis XV. The aim of the voyage was to identify new colonies and trading opportunities for France, while Commerçon was the 'Expedition Botanist', charged with collecting new plant species and surveying the natural environment.
🌎 It wasn’t all plain sailing. Jeanne was suspected by other crew members of being a woman, a suspicion that put her in grave danger in the confined, all-male quarters of the ship.

Just a reminder to those in the Northern Hemisphere that Dandelions are a key source of early nectar to Pollinators, flowering normally begins in a few weeks time but we're already getting reports of Dandelions appearing across the hemisphere, so consider leaving a few plants to flower if you are mowing 🐝
Dandelion (genus Taraxacum) are flowering plants in the family Asteraceae, which consists of species commonly known as dandelions native to Eurasia and North America, but the two commonplace species in the wider world, T. officinale and T. erythrospermum, were also introduced from Europe and now propagate as wildflowers in those regions.
Both species are edible in their entirety. The common name dandelion comes from French "dent-de-lion", meaning "lion's tooth". Like other members of the family Asteraceae, they have very small flowers collected together into a composite flower head.
Each single flower in a head is called a floret. In part due to their abundance along with being a generalist species, dandelions are one of the most vital early spring nectar sources for a wide host of pollinators that themselves are critical to pollination of later flowering plants. Although they are appearing earlier, May-June is a peak blooming time critical for Pollinators.

This is Pepper the silent film cat! Pepper worked for Mack Sennett at Keystone Studios in the 1910s. She is the first cat movie star; her first starring movie was in 1913. She was in at least 17 movies. She is listed as an "actress" at IMDB. She's a Maltese.

Facing shame is the first step in breaking the chains that trap us in the matrix of suffering. You can’t break out of a prison you don’t know you're in.
I believe shame is a feeling of disconnect. Disconnection tied to a lie that somehow I deserve exile. The mind is programmed to avoid pain, so we disassociate and project it out. We then become susceptible to thinking the outside world can cure what ails us. We become trapped in the victim archetype.
In a consumer-driven society, we are given the tools to “cope.” We “blow off steam.” most people don’t build the ideal life. They manage circumstances. The prison is set. Because the root isn’t addressed so it perpetuates and grows.
When I turn and face my demons, I find something/one waiting on the other side. Always. This meeting causes a shift externally that can’t be explained. I am freed from the prisons I unconsciously created. I wake up from the dream I didn't know I was having. Your authentic genius site on the other side of your shame. It is what you are disconnected from.
