A Hypothetical Question Born Out of Curiosity

edited April 2023 in General

I am by no means advocating for anything when asking this but more out of sheer curiosity because of a hypothesis I have. Here goes:

You have contacted an enthusiast and a pro and have had pleasant conversations with each. You request a cuddle on the next Friday. You prefer the enthusiast even though the pro seems just as good. The enthusiast suddenly disappears without answering so you book the pro. Approximately 36 hours before your scheduled appointment the enthusiast contacts you and asks when you will arrive on Friday. Do you

A. Cancel with the pro and cuddle the enthusiast

B. Feel out the pro to see if they are offended and if they are you keep the appointment.

C. Keep the appointment you made with the pro out of a sense of honor.

D. Leave them both hanging with no resolution

We will assume you have time constraints and can’t book both for the sake of playing devil’s advocate and having to make a choice.

There will be a follow-up question in a few days.

Personally, I would go with D. You maintain a commitment and get two cuddles.

@Mman Sorry I took out the book both after reflection.

  • Answer: "it depends"

  • Normally, I'd go with the enthusiast but in this scenario they didn't write back in time, and technically they only asked when you're arriving, not when you'd want to meet up. So, for this one, if money isn't an issue I'd go with the Pro.

@FunCartel No worries. I think I would go with C. I am a sucker for commitment.

  • C. They gotta at least message back to give some kind of confirmation so that you know the slot is taken up. I'd try to be super nice and see if the enthusiast would be willing to reschedule another time slot

  • Cuddle both, as youve already made peace with paying the Pro.

  • Cuddle both is not an option as stated. You need to choose.

  • I know I would go with C because I would feel super guilty cancelling on a pro because they may have passed on other bookings to reserve that slot for me.

  • C, as the enthusiast did not reply at all and disappeared, I made other plans.

Since seeing both isn't an option, definitely C.

I’m gonna go with C because C is for cookie 🍪

  • @lonelytauros That's good enough for me

  • C, and make arrangements with the enthusiast for another time - if they are amendable. Life happens, and their delay/disappearance doesn't mean time stops for you.

  • C because Carma starts with C 😊

@Lisa123 thank you for finishing the Sesame Street reference :)

  • I would just avoid pros altogether as probably my best solution. but you do whatever works for you.

  • For me it would be B, I would love for an enthusiast to have a cuddle with another enthusiast so I would be all about it, but if I changed around my plans to have the cuddle I probably wouldn’t be happy. But there’s a chance that I didn’t have anything to do and I didn’t rearrange my schedule, then it’s no big deal. I would just make them promise that I would get the next pro cuddle:)

I’d go with A, but with strong communication to each. Sounds like there was a miscommunication with the first option (enthusiast) , because there was a pleasant conversation…furthermore, they did follow up 36 hours prior. I’d have a polite conversation about communication expectations.

I think 36 hours is a reasonable amount of time in advance to cancel a pro session. I’d thank them, offer a brief but polite explanation about accidentally double booking your time and tell them you’d love to book at some point in the future.

  • I would pay the pro a reasonable cancelation fee and cuddle with the enthusiast.

I'm cuddling both, but in the moment I'm keeping the booking I already have.

  • Keep the appointment and attempt to reschedule with the other.

  • Bumping for reference sake

  • Cuddle together. Three cuddleteers. One for zen & all for zen. Huzzah.

  • I choose C, out of a sense of being a decent person. Based on the enthusiasts response rate, even if I agreed to cuddle them they’d likely ghost again, so I’d be leery of any future contact.

If the enthusiast has a good reason for suddenly disappearing, and seem genuine, then I’d pick option A but I’d cover 50% of the professional’s cuddle cost plus any travel costs if they apply.

  • A situations happen if people can be understanding of an emergency that can be understanding that maybe you don't want to pay to cuddle when you have the option of cuddling with someone else and they shouldn't take it personally feel like everybody gets a one off now if you do that multiple times you're cut off and I feel like that's professional

I usually reach out to a pro when a cuddle becomes an absolute necessity. It happens - there are times when I just feel shut down with a “please, somebody, hold me!” feeling - and those are the times I reach out to a pro. With enthusiasts, I might reach out but not necessarily when in that state - since I don’t ever have any expectation I would get a response. In this case, since I need the cuddle and I need the reliability that I’ll get it, I’d keep the booking with the pro. So it’s C, not out of any sense of honor or obligation, but because my purpose for booking the pro hasn’t changed - it’s because I really need a cuddle. It’s nice the enthusiast reached out, but unfortunately the timing didn’t work for this circumstance.

    Surfacing…

This is too good a question to pass up. I know the correct answer is “C”. But based on the specifics of the question, and that which is left unstated, I would go with “A”.

With respect to an enthusiast, this is truly hypothetical for me and requires some imagination. But I expect that before meeting, we would have taken some time and effort to cultivate a connection. I would only feel comfortable suggesting we meet after that connection has been established. So even if communication had dropped off for a while, I would make an effort to be understanding when she returned. So much happens in our lives, and people run silent for any number of reasons.

With respect to a professional, the preliminary communication is more limited. I understand they may be very busy and they’re not here looking for a texting buddy. So I respect their time, and exchange a few pleasantries. Just enough to get a good feeling about meeting. But I save the “getting to know you” part for when we actually meet. I hope this doesn’t sound cold, but at this point things are more businesslike. Since we are still within a 36 hour window, the CC guidelines don’t indicate any issue with respect to canceling. (Different within 24). So I would just say something had come up and I hoped we could reschedule. My approach works both ways. I’ve received cancellations a number of times. Even up until an hour before meeting. I take it in stride. Life happens. No one owes me a cuddle. And then I move on.

… and now back to silent mode.

  • I’d go with C for sure, keeping commitments is important with the caveat that I wouldn’t put myself in a position to have conflicting cuddle appointments in the first place. So E? Lol
