Wow! I know everything out in Cali is more expensive, but still shocking to hear by how much. Here in the DFW area I'm seeing prices around $2.23

try living in the UK, we pay $7.77 a gallon. 80% of that is tax.
If you think the price of oil is going up (and I do) you can profit by buying oil stocks. I think Petrobras (PBR) is a great choice or Total (TOT) or even something like the energy ETF (XLE) or ETF for the Russian market which is heavily oil dependent (RSX). Lemons/lemonade so to speak.
Well, now that the "gas crisis" here is over, the prices have thankfully gone back down to 2.20-ish.
They just finally dropped down to $2.45 a gallon for unleaded here in west central Indiana.
My local station is at $3.49/gallon for premium unleaded. It doesnt help that our state government decided to raise gas taxes an additional 12 cents per gallon a few months back. Evidently, they found out that another state was actually taxing more than us so we raised them in our quest to be the highest taxed state in the nation.
There is a website, gasbuddy.com. It has a map of the entire country color coded to reflect local gas prices. Take a look if you want to see how out of whack California is compared to the rest of the country. As if you need a map to tell you that.
On any given day, in my area, 30+ miles west of Chicago, there can be 40 cents or more difference between one gas station and another. Toss into the mix that the immediate area has acquired two stations of a brand that hadn’t been all that near. Each of those stations, individually for a 3 or 4 day period dropped the price of regular unleaded almost 60 cents, to go below $2 in order to drive business in their directions. About 1/3 of the other locals lowered prices to attempt to compete, while the other 2/3 kept prices up. But when these “sales” were over, they shot back up to $2.57, the highest in the area. Go figure!
Why is it that every time there is a price increase, EVERY station goes to the same exact price?? Coincidence? I think not!
