Reasons for friending someone.

What are the reasons people friend request others? I had one person friend me immediately just because I wrote a couple of lines, then I never heard from them again. They are still a member. I unfriended them because it feels dishonest and pointless.

  • The only thing I can think of that is a benefit is that you can see when they were last online without having to go to their profile each time to check there. Helps me look less like a stalker. 😬😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂🤣🤣😂

On a site like this, I think it’s a way to signify that we are somewhat housebroken.

  • Well that's true :) I had not thought of this. But why would they care when I was last online if they don't want to talk to me?

  • @CharlesInWI This is funny, I think, but can you elaborate?

    @achetocuddle

I barely have ideas about what I want to eat for dinner.

Human motivations are WAY beyond my pay grade.

  • I know what you mean.

    Oh, well.

In absence of face to face cues, having friends, or good karma, are ways to display that we are at least somewhat acceptable to others.

How valuable the opinions of those “others” are…

    shrugs

  • @SweetPeaJen just add to your Favorites, then you can see when they were last online w/o visiting their profile.

There's really no reason to add as a Friend that I can think of. Perhaps it's some kind of "oh, look at my popularity!" virtual signaling?

I'm an in-person kind of person, not an online one anyway. The word friend is overused, imo. I reserve it for people I'm close to in real life. Others are simply acquaintances.

  • Inclined to agree @TxTom.

  • @achetocuddle - If that's true, then why are you on my Friends list?

  • I like having people I enjoy talking to on my friends list. I now use my favorites list to keep track of people for moderation purposes, so I only have my friends list to fall back on when I want to message a friend or visit their profile without searching messages or typing in their username manually in the address bar.

  • It may have been said and I missed it but you can also set some pics as, friends only.

  • It's similar to karma in the fact that u can vouch for the person's in your friend list

  • I don’t even know who is on my friends list unless I check it. But that’s the fun of it when you go back months later and wonder WTF I was thinking at that time to friend person Y and why I never friended person X. I am sure people see my name on their list and wonder how that asshole wormed his way in.

  • I appreciate the responses. I have to admit part of the reason I chose this question is I can learn a lot about each member in the way they respond.

    @Morpheus That's interesting; I didn't know.

  • [Deleted User]Mman (deleted user)

It makes me feel better to think I actually have a friend.

  • Me also if they like me and are not just filling up their friend list.

  • @achetocuddle thank you for posing such an interesting question. I have thought about this quite a few times actually. I agree! It is interesting to learn about people from their responses in the forums. 😊

It seems like lots of people kind of treat it like popularity etc. (sort of like facebook and how big your "friend" list was) but I'm inclined to agree with @craM about it being similar to karma.

I don't usually friend request with people that I haven't met in person, because I feel like I am "vouching" for them somehow. Its interesting that you felt a strong emotional response like dishonesty. I can relate to that though!

I unfriended them because it feels dishonest and pointless.

Not everyone feels the same way and it has kind of made its way into my mind of something like boundaries that are physical. I had a cuddler get VERY mad at me when I said "I usually wait until I've met someone in person" and he basically called me a liar because I had @respectful in my friend list and he lives in AUSTRALIA!!!

People have different opinions about what it means and what it doesn't but I share your perspective of unless you are actually sort of "friends" I don't friend them.

side note---- I like the pic aspect as well as the "easy to find when you want to message" aspect.

    AND @FunCartel 😂🤣😁

wonder how that asshole wormed his way in.

You are on MY friend list for a VERY GOOD REASON!!!!

  • [Deleted User]MrAdmirer (deleted user)

its just a good way to let potential cuddlers know you are the real deal and taking the platonic cuddling thing seriously. That's at least how I look at it.

  • I must admit that there are a small number of people on my list who probably shouldn't be, and a few who aren't, but should be, so it' probably time time for a little pruning. That being said, it's probably true that people then to hold opinions that are similar to those held by their friends. That can be a quick way to evaluate someones opinion on any (serious) issue.

  • When I start to care more about what someone feels than what we're doing.

  • I send friend requests to people who have made comments on the forum which I have enjoyed reading, and to people who I have met and enjoyed cuddles with. If I want to travel to a new city and meet a cuddle buddy, my list of friends is the shortlist from which I reach out first before I even go through search results.

  • @sillysassy You are on my Mt Rushmore of CC friends. I will be your tree pruner suspended by a pulley from the mountain top to prune that nasty tree growing out of your nose. It would be an honor to prune your nose.

As far as the friends list, I may not always stay in touch, but it reminds me of some of the genuine people on CC that I have encountered and when I see the list I feel hopeful even if I may have pissed some of them off at some point—which I am really good at for better or worse. But everyone needs a dose of hope and those faces reinvigorate my hope.

  • @sillysassy Your post is really interesting and makes sense. I like that you say you also have wondered about this. And I don't know what to think about someone looking thru someone's friend list so they can call them on making an exception to what they usually do. Wow.

  • I usually wait like @sillysassy to friend someone after I've met them. Only meeting those who I would like to cuddle. There are a couple of exceptions who snuck their way onto my friend list by blowing up my inbox 😝 they know who they are.

  • @achetocuddle I like to have friends in my list who I would actually like to be friends with irl (like you 🥰)

  • @cudbud64 Lol.
@KarmicKuddles20 Glad you still feel that way. So do I about you. I am very tech-lazy and I've never learned how to request a friend. I'm sure this sounds silly to a lot of people, but me and tech will never be friends. It's a thousand wonders I figured out how to get on cc, LOL. But so glad. Wish I had joined years ago.
