Breaking the Ice

So, I've been on CC for a while and have cuddled with multiple people. Right now I have 1 cuddler I cuddle with on a regular basis.

I'm out and about and see people I know. Recently I've noticed myself looking at certain people and thinking to myself , that person might be a great cuddler.

How would you break the ice and start talking about cuddling with someone you know, but aren't sure how receptive they would be to the idea of platonic cuddling?

When they are relaxed and happy and you are chatting away together, perhaps after a couple of beers, just say, "Oh, did I tell you about my Cuddling?" And then talk about it. Be ready to mention one or two slightly scientific points about oxytocin. But don't labour the point, and let the conversation flow naturally. If they are interested they'll talk about it, and if they are horrified they will change the subject. Do not mention or hint at cuddling with them - keep it partly in the abstract (this is good for society) and partly about you (this is good for me).

I have never made the transition from ordinary friends to cuddling, and I've only even contemplated it with one or two people, so treat the above with one or more pinches of salt if not outright suspicion. However this is how I mention cuddling to people and the reception in and of itself is always satisfactory. Lots of people just don't get it, and we move on. Most are vaguely positive.

When you want somebody to do something, the best approaches tend to be either to ask outright, or let them think it was their idea.

Edit: couple of afterthoughts. I find it very helpful to emphasise that cuddling is "very strictly platonic." I always mention that there are professional cuddlers and that I have cuddled with them.

Cuddling is a new and unusual concept for most people and it will take time for them to get used to the idea. The more often you bring it up (without being boring) and the more you normalise it, the easier it will be for them to get the hint.

  • @CuddleDuncan that's excellent advice. Thanks

  • Sounds like it's time for a cuddle comfort t-shirt 🙂

  • I was working on mine earlier! I got a custom t-shirt made for someone else so I can create one for myself at 50% off. But they don't have the font used on the site 😕 This is the closest they have

@jascuddlebook May I add, be yourself, figure out what you want from cuddling, and learn all you can about healthy platonic touch and consensual platonic cuddling give yourself time, take care of your cuddling partners, and enjoy the journey. Welcome!

  • I actually never brought this up in person to anyone who doesn't know about this cuddling thing already in order to cuddle with them. My clients come from online (different sites) and in person who heard of it from others or online about my work. However, there is one person I'm thinking to bring this up to because it seems they need a cuddle at times. We are not like super close so if he thinks of me being a cuddle pro is a weird thing and it ends our friendship or whatever then it would be ok. But I will probably just start up a convo about work again and I will just mention that I cuddle on the side of my regular job and just take it from there. If he wants to be a client then great but if it's too weird for him or whatever then it's ok too. Just approach the topic in a way you'd feel comfortable and take their response as is. Cuddling isn't for everyone...and that's ok.

  • @CuddleDuncan you are brilliant:) Everything you say seems to be so well thought out. I always learn something from you. Why do you have to be so far away

Just be aware of the fact that some people will have a knee-jerk reaction when it comes to this. I tried to explain cuddling and this site to a friend (who, granted, is not a cuddly sort) and she immediately assumed it was a cover for sex work.

  • Most of my friends don’t want to talk about it. My one sister laughs when I talk about it and she thinks it’s interesting but my other sister says don’t mention cuddling anymore it’s weird and creepy. She never gives me a chance to explain. Most of my friends think it’s OK but once I say that I’m in bed with someone they think it’s crazy. I would say that most people are very uncomfortable with it. I did meet someone on Rent A Friend seven years ago just to do fun things with me. He ended up being a very very cuddly person so even though he’s not on cuddle comfort we have cuddled platonically.

  • If I met someone out in public somewhere and we hit it off talking as friends and eventually he brought up cuddling and assured me that it was completely platonic I would definitely take him up on it, maybe slower than I would as a pro but definitely would be something I would be interested in

I bet if a Polar Bear was involved, it would only take a step or two
