One does not have to be after the central government and it’s Capitol for an armed conflict to be a civil war. The side seceding can merely be fighting for autonomy.

True, but the citizens were not of the same state, as per definition of a civil war. The CSA did not recognize itself as part of the Union. So, insofar as the CSA was concerned, it was an autonomous State. Trust me, I'm right.

True, I do, and it happens to be correct. It was not initially my own, though. I was convinced of the technicality of the phrase by a number of historians.

No you are not right, but self-delusion is part of the whole it was not a civil war perspective. There are tons of articles posturing behind that definition, but the fact of the matter is the courts and Lincoln never observed them as an autonomous entity which was a hasty smoke screen created by states wanting slavery maintained. They never wanted their own country…they wanted their slaves. Your own state—Texas—said as much:
Other Southern states followed and said slavery was the primary reason for secession. Texas delegates wrote the abolition of slavery “would bring inevitable calamities upon both races and desolation” in the slave states. The Mississippi secession document said “our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery – the greatest material interest in the world.”
The CSA was just a bunch of white dudes pissed off that they might have to do their own work. They never had a true banking system, the army was mostly volunteer as the money was worthless, and no country ever recognized the Confederacy as a sovereign nation. The illusion is in the heads of those who created “The Great Cause” myth.

There are people who mistake their perception for fact and ignore the bigger picture. From probably one of the most authoritative historians on the Civil War explaining why it was a Civil War:

Obviously the question was answered. We are a nation with a sovereign state rather than what the CSA asserted. But I thought you were done? I guess you will say you were done and that was fact too.

Historical facts don't change. Only the lens by which we interpret history changes, based largely on contemporary standards which have changed in the past and will continue changing in the future.
I don't debate historical facts ever, maybe someone else will, but by all means continue posting. I'll read everything you write or link to. I don't ignore relevant information. But your James McPherson quote didn't at all address my very simple statement of the proper technical term for the conflict. Federal vs. State sovereignty is an important, massive, but nevertheless, wholly tangential topic.
