Alternative Definition of Platonic

Came across this paragraph in a book about physics (The One by Heinrich Päs) and my brain very much enjoyed rattling it around.

Sidenote: are there any other ways that people describe non-sexual interactions that use a word other than platonic or non sexual?

Comments

  • Friendly?

  • Congruence

  • Which paragraph? Are you able to quote it?

  • I just kinda assume anything other than sexual is non sexual. Getting into too many terms for it and what not gets tedious

  • Hanging out.

  • Sorry I realized the photo I meant to post never uploaded.. the quote is this:

Platonic: love for a specific individual only reflects a deeper Love for the entire universe, as per Heinrich Päs as per Plato

I recently had someone reach out to me that kept using the word platonic, and I think to him it meant that he wasn't "dating"...like a friends with benefits situation? As language is extremely limiting, I think it's important you understand the meaning of the word a person is using, the way they are interpreting it, or else you end up talking about two different things. Best to attempt to communicate effectively so everyone is on the same page.

  • @Motorbaby ... I had to look up the meaning of congruence to understand its full meaning. Not realizing it was a math term (never did well in math), I used congruent and incongruent all the time in my work as a social worker.
