Anyone been to a Cuddle Party?

edited August 2012 in Root
In my search for some companionship I came across cuddleparty.com. Has anyone here gone to one of these cuddle parties/cuddle groups? I'm hoping to get some insight. Are these popular? What is the experience like at them?

  • No....looking for women close to my hometown. :-S
  • I saw the cuddle party info too.SO curious. I first saw a clip on tv about it. I contacted the closest facilitator to me (4 hours drive away, geez) I hope to attend the next one they have there. He tells me he could travel to set up a workshop. I am too curious to attend one before I host one though.
  • what is cuddle party?

I haven't been to an official cuddleparty.com cuddle party, but I did go to a nurturing touch event put on by Austin LoveTribe of lovetribe.org. It was an awesome experience. They start out by explaining that everyone has to ask before touching a person, and ask specifically, such as "Is it okay if I hug you?" or whatever it is you would like to share, and to accept "no" as a gift just as you do "yes". It creates a very safe environment in which to share nurturing touch. We could all use more of that.
  • I agree we could all use more nurturing touch! I have been to one cuddle party it also was a good
experience where you had to ask permission and get a definite OK before proceeding. Where was the one that you attended?
    Have a great night!

  • I ve been to a few cuddle puddles as we called them
  • Hello everyone: Can I advertise a group of cuddlers in Portland, Oregon?

The Group is called Positive Touch Oregon. A great group of people.

Sometimes a cuddle massage party is held. All cuddling is voluntary

permission needs to be given before proceeding. Arrow
  • @arrow I've heard of it, but I've never been there. how does it work really?
  • I saw that one when looking around meetup, and want to make a group for something similar in Los Angeles., Could call it "Touch positive LA." Its an idea that's been on my brain for years and I've never fulfilled it. I want to finally take some action soon, even if all I can start with is gathering people in a group where we can cuddle-network and holding some events where we get as many people together and see who wants to be cuddle buddies. Does that group rent locations to put on physical touch events? Thats something I would look into later on.

There used to be some official cuddle parties here in L.A. but they both closed before I got around to going. They rented out places like motel meeting rooms and yoga studio rooms for the events. I don't have any money to throw at this project for locations, and though its not uncommon to see people getting their cuddle on in public parks here, don't think its ideal for such and event, and many are not comfortable with the idea.

So possibly just like a group meeting where people can get together and cuddle somewhere else, or at the park if they don't have anywhere private to go even. If there is enough interest though it may be possible to be provided locations in places like a yoga studio or other organizations that support the touch positive agenda.

Well, this thread sure got necro'd good, but I'll chime in to say that I have been to a few cuddle parties before, and they are truly excellent. The closest group I've been able to find is in Chicago - a 200 mile, 4 hour drive from here - but I enjoy it enough that I make the trip once every other month. I wish there were something closer, but I haven't come across any.

Others have already mentioned the main points of how they work: no one cuddles without getting unambiguous permission, and everyone always has the right to say "no." The majority of the ~45 minute workshop at the beginning is on that very topic. People generally start out cuddling with one or two others, but tend to coalesce into a pile in the middle of the room as time goes on. Some people bring snacks.

Everyone is encouraged to wear comfortable, modest, 'cuddly' clothes. Most wear sweatpants and t-shirts, I always wear my flannel pajamas, or - if it's cool enough - a fleece onesie.
  • I've been to three official cuddle parties: two in a West Hollywood yoga studio (Swerve) and one in an Irvine home. It looks like a new group is forming up, and they're using the name Sparticus proposed above.

Coincidentally, I'm currently watching the Spartacus TV series DVDs. Cuddle parties are much tamer than the Romans' debauched orgies!

  • I signed up for a cuddle party a few days ago.
It will be in Falls Church, VA next month Mar 2014.
It's only $30 and lasts 3 1/2 hours.  It will be my first one.
