  • @simsaddict wish you a speedy recovery 🙏

  • @simsaddict i recommend binging on this delightful Korean Drama on Netflix! It has it all, comedy, love triangle, silliness, lots of crying and misunderstandings that makes dramas great! The lead actress is amazing Kim You-Jung! Show is called Backstreet Rookie

I haven't had surgery in many years, but having multiple chronic illnesses I'm frequently out of commission for weeks at a time on mostly bed rest. I'm normally a super active person with a lot of hobbies and multiple jobs, so add my ADHD and I go stir crazy!

Some of the things I do to keep me busy:

    • crochet, cross stitch, friendship bracelets, and other hand crafts. I give them as gifts or even sell them. Bonus: I can do them while watching a movie/TV or listening to audiobooks/podcasts
    • attend free virtual events. I'll find free virtual events on Meetup, Eventbrite, Facebook, etc. and add them to my calendar in advance so that if I happen to be sick I have a whole bunch of things I can do even from bed. I've taken classes, attended parties, game nights, concerts, yoga classes, guided meditation, virtual cuddle parties, seminars, etc.
    • schedule phone calls and virtual socials with friends and family. I'll catch up with people I love and care about over the phone or Zoom. Sometimes it's just hours long phone calls. Sometimes we watch movies or YouTube together. Sometimes we'll cook and eat dinner together. Sometimes we'll do a game night with something like jack box or poker.
    • brush up on languages I've learned or start learning more. I love using Duolingo to practice my Spanish and German because they've gotten really rusty from disuse over the years. It's fun and easy to use, and the gamified way it's presented helps keep my ADHD brain engaged
    • coloring pages, journaling, creative writing. All of these can be kind of meditative for me. I can't always hold a pencil/pen well or stare at a screen, so sometimes it's voice to text that I'll go back and edit later. I'll find free coloring pages online and print them, or for even simpler if my hand tremors are bad there's coloring apps that allow you to color in pictures by number.
    • refocus on self-care routines. It's an opportunity to slow down and re-establish my daily routines which I tend to fall out of when busy and stressed. I'll work on going to bed and getting up at the same time, doing my skincare and basic hygiene routines morning and night, take relaxing showers, getting back into meditation and stretching practices, etc. Bedtime routine is probably both the hardest to stick to and most necessary for me - shutting off my brain is hard and it resists attempts to go to bed "early"
    • work on breaking my tech addiction. It's a good time to focus on everything but tech, since so much of my work is tech dependent. I'll read real books, get off social media for the time being, snooze notifications, shut off my phone at bedtime, etc.
  • @simsaddict - iPhine has new features (and I assume Android has something similar) that allow you to remotely watch movies with someone - you share the pause button so you stay synchronized and you can talk to each other so you can have a shared experience even though you are physically separated.

There are also some multi-player online games so you can connect with friends and do something together even if you are home alone.
