Songs that are hits for a moment, but the hook makes you think of something else.

edited July 2023 in General

Right now there is a song that has been stuck in my head for a minute.
Poundtown, poundtown....
The hook is clearly catchy and the beat makes me want to drop it likes it hot.
But for some reason when I first heard it I decided to ditch my diet and wanted pound cake. So I went to my grocery store and bought 3 pound 🍰.
Now everyday my mind starts saying poundtown poundtown and my body follows that lead and goes to the freezer to get a couple of slices(at 300 calories per recommend size slice). Mind manipulation maybe, is the man trying to make me chubbier?
Poundtown poundtown....🤯👨‍🍳 eat the cake mcducky.
Apologies if this discussion has made any of you want to visit poundtown.
Do you have any songs like that? That means one thing but make you think of another?

Terry Jack’s 1973 song, “Seasons in the Sun”. It played a lot on the radio when I was in elementary school.

A few years later when I was in middle school, my best friend moved away when his dad took a new job in Alabama. A few weeks later, I learned he had died in a car accident shortly after the move.

“Seasons in the Sun” came on the radio within minutes of me getting the news about his death. While the rationale part of my brain tells me that was just a coincidence, there is a part of me that has always felt like he somehow made that happen. The first verse of the song really felt like him saying goodbye to me. To this day, that song transports me back to middle school every time I hear it.

If that is the song I’m thinking, you’ve gotta be trolling to get people to look it up, cause the only thing that song inspires anyone to do is to unsubscribe from the internet.

  • @JohnR1972 thats beautiful. I get the same way with Cat Stevens father and son. Played it nonstop whrn my Grandad died. I was in the road when he passed and lost my mind for a minute. I said I would be back to see him. Didnt make it in time.

@Charlie_Bear I dont fully understand the context of your sentence, but I do know poundtown for me is pounding out 3-4 pieces of pound cake no lie. Everybody that knows me knows when I say poundtown I need some poundcake, some whip cream that's white and some caramel that's brown for toppings cause sara lee does it the best!! Poundtown

Ha well the song I’m thinking definitely can’t be linked here. But it’s called Pound Town by Sexyy Red. Is that the same song that you are referring to? Look up at your own discretion cause it’s very much nsfw.

  • @Charlie_Bear that's it. I like my remix better. Lol

@Charlie_Bear can wheeler walker jr’s song be linked here? Money ‘n’ B……

  • @lonelytauros does the hook make you think of something besides the obvious?

@lonelytauros just listened to gub gub and the boys. I guess if your a animal control officer this song is played every day.
Here is another example. Every time I cant wait and eat something straight out the oven, snoopdog and Pharrell drop it like its hot comes to mind. Only after I burned my tongue.

  • I'm auditory. Every song sets off a series of other songs and pieces. I love being around other auditory people that respond the same way. It gets pretty funny.

  • @PeopleLikeUs yes it does. What I found interesting is if a person is not naturally auditory, but is around it enough to understand, they join in. Creating bonds of understanding with each other is a pretty cool accomplishment nowadays.

  • When my dad passed, he was at home all 7 of us and my mom were there by his side. The next day I got in my car and the first song that came on was “Leaving on A Jet Plane” by John Denver. I sat and listened to the whole thing crying my eyes out. I don’t think it was a coincidence that it came on right at that time. I cry every time I hear it now.
