Dark humor

‘I’m sorry’ and ‘I apologize’ mean the same thing. Except at a funeral.” —Demetri Martin

Q: What has four legs and one arm?
A: A happy pit bull.

Q: Why don’t cannibals eat clowns?
A: Because they taste funny.

"I have a vest. If I had my arms cut off, it would be a jacket." —Mitch Hedberg

Q: What did Kermit the frog say at Jim Henson’s funeral?
A: Nothing.

"If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you." —Steven Wright

Some scientific research suggests that an appreciation of dark humor correlates with a high IQ. I don't know if that's true, but my family can attest that almost ALL humor in our household is of the dark and twisted kind. Make of that what you will. My brother can attest that it is likely a genetic trait as well.

  • Dark humor is a great way of dealing with a tough situation, thanks for the laugh!

  • One of my favorites:

My elderly relatives liked to tease me at weddings, saying, “You’ll be next!” They soon stopped though, once I started doing the same to them at funerals.

  • @LadyVel I once knew a WW2 vet who, upon anyone making a remark about age, would say "you know, most fellas my age are dead!"

I find myself using that phrase from time to time now.

British comedian Jimmy Carr got into trouble with certain newspapers for a joke he told a few years ago.

This war in Afganistan is a dreadful thing. So many of our brave soldiers are coming back with terrible injuries, limbs missing and so on. It's heartbreaking.
    ... [pause]
Looking on the bright side, we are going to have an amazing Paralympics team in a few years.

Obviously he told this joke to an audience of amputees, at their specialist hospital. They laughed their heads off.

  • @CuddleDuncan People struggling with issues usually appreciate related humor. Being able to look at oneself and laugh is therapeutic and healing. And because jokes are generalizations, they make those struggling feel like they're not alone, and reminds them that they are part of a community. I don't believe jokes like that are in any way told out of malice.

  • This is definitely one thread where we won't see any light bulb jokes.

Losing an arm or leg in no known universe compares to the overwhelming grief that would come from losing a baby or child. What a ridiculous comparison.

Apparently you missed the very dark humor in that. It was a ridiculous comparison that is the joke. And dead baby jokes is a whole genre of tasteless dark jokes. Google dead baby jokes and you will see. Also extrapolating from someone’s logic in other humor to an extreme is a device. Zooooommm goes the plane over your head or your ridiculous attempt at gotcha. I think it’s both given it’s a dark humor thread.

  • As Joseph Stalin once said: “Dark humor is like food. Not everyone gets it.”

Thank you for explaining what @CuddleDuncan explained already. No one would have figured that out, not even boss baby😎

🤣🤣🤣 But I would add that the thread title should have been the first clue they might want to refrain from reading the thread.

I think you need to stop derailing the thread and baiting.

  • Back on track:

What are the two worst medical conditions to have simultaneously? Alzheimer’s and diarrhea. You’re running but can’t remember where.

  • An elderly acquaintance once said to me in all seriousness - and this is completely true - "I've been diagnosed with either Parkinson's or Alzheimer's but I can't remember which."

  • I have a joke about trickle down economics but 99% of you will never get it.

  • @BoomerSpooner @TxTom
Both of you can either stop engaging each other or steer away from this thread, I don't care which. Also, I'm aware this is the dark joke thread, but please refrain from the dead baby jokes(even if its to mock them). It's a sore topic for some on the forum. You don't know what bad memories you could be bringing back for someone.

  • I get it.
