How to ask for the money I want at work without being embarrassed if they say “wtf no”
I am trying to figure out what I can do to improve myself and how to do so. A never ending challenge no doubt 😅
@Molly_B you're worth it. They're a company if you're worried it seems to me that they need to treat you better anyway. I feel like people should be able to feel safe asking questions even those ones without feeling bad. I hope you love your job and they are nice to you. Hugs.

@Molly_B how long have you been there and why do you think you should be given a raise. Show them you know your value by what you bring to the company.

@Molly_B If you know you are an overall asset to the company, don't ever be embarrassed by asking for higher compensation. The value they gain from your productivity will be more than you gain from a well-deserved raise. They're winning by having you as an employee. Show them how.
Also, explore similar work with another company. A higher starting salary can be used as a bargaining chip to pursue a raise.
Of course, all of this is considered along with your personal loyalty to your company. Accepting your current salary may be okay considering other non-tangibles.
@stormydaycuddle Thank you! This is the happiest I’ve been at work ever in my working life so I feel good going in everyday. It’s mostly from past work place trauma that I’m worried about how they’ll react. Working through that in therapy though. 🥰
@Wizurr been there a year and have just been promoted. I can’t get a comp change until the end of the year. I’m going to ask for about 40k (!!!) more due to the change in title and department. I’ve gotten incredible feedback on reviews and already turned down another position at about 3 months in.
I think they see my value so I feel empowered to ask but still a little worried about how it will be received.
@TxTom thanks for the encouragement. I also plan to highlight the savings over time that comes with an internal promotion especially during a time with high turnover. I’m committed, I’m driven and they see that so here’s to asking for what I’m worth! 🥂

@stormydaycuddle But Oliver had no choice. The children drew to see who would ask for food and Oliver was selected. This angered the workhouse because those who oversaw it didn’t want them to be much of an expenditure and would rather see them starve or leave the workhouse. So Oliver became expendable the moment he asked for more. At its heart, much of Dickens work is a critique of capitalism and class structure and how it often dehumanizes people.

And if you like Dickens, you would probably like Gissing whose novels are even more realistic and gritty and he was also considered the foremost expert and critic on Dickens in his era.

@stormydaycuddle Gissing admired Dickens. He was a literary critic of Dickens which does not mean he criticized him, it meant he analyzed his work.
@BoomerSpooner I was legit just reading, "A Poe for Your Problems" which is a satire self help book about taking Poe as an example of a life well spent... so positive critic didn't even cross my mind. lol

School and how my partner doesn't want to renew our year lease because I haven't been able to find work that 1. pays anything and 2. doesn't stress me out so much. And I have three side gigs going but they're all fresh and take time away from school and job-hunting. I think at this point he's only with me because I'm still on the lease. It's very depressing.
