How do you personally deal with stress?

edited August 2023 in General

Just wonder how everyone de-stresses when things get rough. (Other than the obvious cuddling haha, not always possible though). I have a pretty stressful life right now for all sorts of reasons, but I have some good walks when I live and if I happen to be in London, St James' Park is my go-to relaxation spot.

  • Do not neglect the virtues of Green Park, if there is time. It's not nearly as nice of course, but it's bigger and more spacious and that means you can open your shoulders are just march. Theme to the Great Escape on the headphones on repeat.

I’m a huge fan of weed.

  • I find doing a hobby that uses my brain takes my mind off whatever is troubling me.
I make MTG decks or write up ideas for D&D.
If im not in the mood for that I get out. I go to a park or the mall and walk around.
I hope whatever is stressing you goes away my friend.

  • “You should ride your bike an hour per day unless you don’t have time. On those days you should ride for 2 hours.” 😊

For me exercise is my go to for stress management even if it is just a short walk (preferably in a green space). And about 2 times per month I do a float at a local spa.

Distractions helps me. Sometimes I do nothing and let my head cool down and then try to understand why I feel stressed. Hiking also helps.

  • I've found that messing with telemarketers is a great way to destress. One fun thing to do is interrupt their sales pitch and say "Wait! Listen! Did you hear that?". When they resume their script, interrupt again and say "I just KNOW they have my phone tapped, and now they're gonna come get you too!!"

Keep going in this pattern until the caller gives up

  • I'm a big fan of @Molly_B

  • I hop on the CC forums and participate in a random argument.

The lord's loud does wonders. 🌲💨

  • @Rezz Absolutely. And with no hangover.

  • Whenever possible, I distance myself from whatever it is that's stressing me out. That could be going for a walk when it's work-related, or switching from a video game to Netflix. I thought I'd take video games less seriously as I got older, but my competitive nature still gets the better of me on a regular basis 😅

    I love to smoke marijuana
It give me a deep meditation

  • Coffee and poops

  • Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who had never smoked weed. Nothing against it as long it's done at the right place. I know somebody who is highly allergic to it and can't go to concerts for that reason.

  • I know someone who is allergic to nuts but I still eat peanuts.

  • @BoomerSpooner - I sometimes make my own peanut butter by putting peanuts into a Vitamix blender.... I wouldn't use that blender at all to make anything for somebody who has a peanut allergy. I heard that in some cases, people got a severe allergic reaction just by the smell of it alone.

  • @Mike403 Good for you. But this was about what people use to deal with stress, not what Mike403 feels about weed.

  • @BoomerSpooner - Because marijuana is mentioned a lot and I just said that I feel like the only person who hasn't smoked it before...then started to go off on a tangent which is a forum habit of mine.

  • @Mike403 i understand and I get it. Be aware it was coming off as judgmental. Everyone has some level of stress and anxiety and you deal with it however you can. But I appreciate your self awareness.

  • Maybe I should try it to figure out what all the craze is about. It's pretty much legal now.

  • @Mike403 That is entirely up to you as it is a personal choice. But it works for many of us without leading to harder drugs as many would have you believe.

  • @BoomerSpooner - I never mentioned anything about harder drugs. I know people who smoke weed and never thought about trying anything else.

  • @Mike403 i know you didn’t mention harder drugs. I mention it because for years it was touted as a gateway drug to harder drugs. That’s all. The only reason it was put on a banned list of narcotics is because black people used it so it was outlawed in the early 20th century. Our racist past is tied up in that weed.

  • Anxiety meds, penguin documentaries and a nap.

I drop everything.and reset. Its not a good method or intentional. Its more of a defense mechanism of my brain. If i get overloaded then i tend to just let go of everything and take a few minutes to breath and reset myself. Then go back through all my notes and pick things back up based on priority. I have learned to delegate things out if I start getting overloaded in hopes to avoid the reset. Its not like a mltdown, because those tend to still hold onto everything. Its almost like my mind just trips a breaker and says you are done now, shutting down. It migt be related to my autism, as everything is starting to make more sense in life since i got that diagnosis.

I dont consider the cuddling a stress reliever so much as a battery recharger.

  • Dare we forget enemas for the anal retentive types.

@Jova114 I love to do D&D homebrew, maybe we can swap some ideas or expand upon some.

  • @Mike403 I say this not out of judgment because I like you . You are doing the thing where you feel a need to have to respond to every post with a retort or an explanation . It's ok to let some of these things go .
