My aunt listens to the classical station. She chills and listens to classical while she waits for me to come pick her up for lunch sometimes. Now I really want to know if people try to make requests on those stations.
I listen to classical music and classic rock music, occasional adult contemporary. Love community radio with ethnic, folk and other special programming. NPR is a staple. Almost never: newer country and right wing talk radio. As soon as I hear the words “woke agenda”, I am outa there in a flash.
Yes, the radio station here takes requests.
Another program features a professional piano player who will play a contemporary tune, but in the style of one of the classic composers. Contestants attempt to discern the difference and identify the "mystery" composer. It's actually quite interesting.
@KansasDad Somehow I got the impression that @Jova114 was asking about classical music stations. I didn't see anything in his OP about politics.

@jova114 They play it at the hospice I volunteer at. The 88 yo I am assigned to asked if the hospice staff had ever watched “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and considered that playing classical music is an insidious torment like in the movie. I told him they probably do so to keep people calm. He said he preferred a morphine drip to classical music. So I picked up a cheap radio and headphones for the guy about a month ago and gave them to him so he could listen to whatever he wanted.
The 88 yo is a white guy that grew up in a valley in the Ozarks—very remote and rural. I pegged him for a country western guy considering his upbringing. Nope, he had the soul station on his radio and he later said he missed dancing at the clubs. Go figure.
I grew up playing classical music against my will and I am very educated about it. Just not my cup of tea.
@TxTom @KansasDad I appreciate everyone's feedback but just to keep this post in calm waters let's just say when something on the radio we don't like we switch, instead of naming it
@BoomerSpooner That was very nice of you! And music is crazy like that. You think one person from a type of setting would be into a certain type of music but boom..they like something totally out of that environment.
I can see how they think classical music is soothing but honestly lo fi is way more relaxing. To me anyways
@Jova114 Many times when you're listening to a symphony orchestra, you can hear various noises that are not part of the score. Things like instruments getting bumped, pages being turned, an occasional cough... I suppose that would qualify as Lo-Fi?
@TxTom lol that's true. I do appreciate classical music and ironically what got me to appreciate it was rap/hip hop. Some of my favorite songs have samples from classical music (as well as other genres) And me being me I always wanna know where the sample came from.
@Jova114 I agree l. Lo-fi is the bomb (or balm) and is a substantial part of my cuddle playlist. So relaxing and dreamy.
@BoomerSpooner yasss! What I love is that you can find a theme to the lo fi. Currently while at work I listen to Nintendo Lo Fi.

Classical music is very much in demand. That’s why they have dedicated music stations for it in every market. Duh. There is research that suggests classical music improves your brain and helps learning capability.

I feel like classical music is one of those things people insist they love even when they don't because it makes them feel more cultured. Like sushi and British TV shows. But I do certainly appreciate it as music is art , and many of classical artists are at the top of their game

Same thing for folks who have very specific, highfalutin books out on the coffee table they've never read, but that are purposefully displayed to impress those in their social circles. (It's easy to determine if a book has been read.)
I didn't develop an interest in or appreciation for classical music until my 30s. While my taste in other genres come and go, it's my staple.

I don’t have to worry about that, I don’t even have a coffee table and most of my rather small social circle has never even been inside my house 😂
However, I agree with your point. It reminds me of a plaque I saw hanging in an older couple’s house once which read… “In your 20s, you care about what others think of you, In your 40s, you quit caring what others think of you, In your 60s, you realize nobody was ever thinking of you in the first place.”
Coffee tables are so 20th century. I got rid of coffee tables years ago and my shins thanked me.
I think the new social faux pas designed to impress is having a $10,000 plus game and entertainment set up and being ignorant as to where the power switch is.
@JohnR1972 I am almost 37 and I can say for a fact that I couldn't care less these days. Wondering if it hit me early. I used to care so much it was immobilizing. And I have a slightly different take but in the same vein as yours.

@TxTom excuse me I read my coffee table books. And "A Poe for Your Problems" which is a guide on how to f up your life like Edgar Allan Poe messed up his is not only incredibly insightful...but all 2 people in my social circle...overlooked it...so...
Anyway it has a section on how to troll like Poe. It was the first page my bff opened to when he saw it and started laughing because...my style of trolling is totally Poe.
I actually really liked the book.
