Good day everyone! Any singing enthusiasts here got something to share?:

What you share could be anything such as some songs you sang, something you learned about singing, your singing experience, or some all time favorites. :)

As for me and the inspiration for this post:

I got to chat a bit with a new member here about singing which, perhaps less so now, I've a hate love relationship with.

The thing is, I used to find that some songs were easier for me to sing naturally than others, as someone with little to no a knowledge of singing, and no training.

Though until now I couldn't quite figure out or put words to why that was. However, my making the effort to find out why to answer his question helped to give me more clarity. I think I previously thought it was a me issue when I struggled with some songs. Which is likely where the hate part primarily came from. Rather than understanding that it is more to do with different factors, such as the vocal demands of a song, and that just because I love a particular song doesn't necessarily mean I can sing it as well as the others. So with this greater understanding I can now look for songs that are a better fit for me, rather than singing random songs. Or because it's a song I love, if I'm looking for better results.

For context, this was a response I gave him about it:

I'm not sure the terminology for it or that which most applies to me exactly. Though I think that I've a soft or low vocal range and that I can sing more slow paced songs or ones that have a variety of vocal ranges. So here are a few song examples I can sing at least decently, whereas some no can do:

Homesick by Kane Brown, One Dance by Drake, Apologize by Timbaland, Disturbia, and Under my Umbrella by Rihanna. While a song like Home by Daughtry, which is one of the ones I love, I don't think I sing as well as the others. Which is probably because it has a sustained vocal range that doesn't come naturally to me. Thanks, your question gave me more clarity on my singing ability, and repertoire.

I did once many years ago attempt to learn how to sing properly. That old playstation game Singstar soon made me realise that was an impossible task 😅 I'd just sing to myself quietly if anything.

  • @DaveTheBrit lol
According to Rock Band I wasnt a bad singer lol

  • Music is like my heartbeat, crucial to my existence. I’m not a soloist but I do sing in a choir. I’m always humming a song or singing one if I’m by myself. Usually, the last thing I heard on the radio or whatever song the choir is singing.

  • I love to sing often. Usually while driving, but also of course during lessons, whenever there's a chance to do some karaoke with friends or family, or playing rock band.

  • @Jova114 I don't sing professionally either, it's something I'm on the fence about doing. Though cool, that's interesting. I've recently been trying to get into writing my own songs.

@DaveTheBrit There's a way to sing probably? lol. Cool! I don't suppose I heard of that Singstar PlayStation game before, sounds interesting. I've for some time been ocassionally singing on an app called Smule.

@Snickerdoodle17 How splendid and you seem to be a highly versatile singers with many music interests.

@CSnMUS87 That's cool! I never been to a karaoke, though I was just thinking about it to day and I might check one out someday.

    😊

  • Music has always been a part of my life. And singing is comforting. And more than that, singing has been an important part of my transition. I've always had a good range, so I would try to sing female parts in a female voice. So when it came time to speak in a more female voice, I had singing voice to use as a base.

  • ...i use to rap though.
    Does that count?

  • I am brave on the mic, and mediocre to decent at best in ability. I go for Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, or the Beach Boys when I should really go for for lullabies and Old Mac Donald. lol

  • @Unscented_Lemon Awesome and interesting, singing is a somewhat of a new hobbies for me, and I sometimes find it to be therapeutic. It's awesome that you've a good vocal range. Are there songs you've found pleasant to sing and any you found difficult?

@Jova114 I think it's the only one that counts lol.

@Minestrone101 I'm not too familiar with the other singers, though I too would find MJ's songs difficult due to both the high notes and their fast pace nature on some parts.

It seems like you're a baritone or something and trying to keep up with primarily high note or fast paced songs. Though it's cool if you enjoy the challenge and process. It's not always about being good at it, sometimes it's just about having fun and enjoying. Have you tried singing Ain't No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye?

    🤗

  • @Lovelight Oh, too many songs to count. I've lost the lower end of my range, so that limits some songs a bit. Darkness in Paradise by Candlemass was always a challenge, now I think it's beyond my reach. Some of my favorites are Mordred's Lullaby by Heather Dale and Danse Macabre by Delain. And it just depends on mood and other goings on.

@Lovelight I have not sung that song yet, but I am open to trying ! Any song is okay for me : Diana Ross, Blink 182, Usher! I love singing. What genre do you enjoy singing?

I feel I'm so where between a baritone and tenor if such a thing exists. Who knows!

  • I love singing. 😊

...I sound like a dying whale...

...But I love singing. 😁 I can hit every note Charlotte Church can, but believe me, no one wants to hear me do it. 🤣

    @Minestrone101 haha thanks!

  • I absolutely love to sing! Every week I go to different karaoke bars in my area, and sing as many times as I can, which typically can be anywhere from 1-3 songs per bar 😅

My go to artist is Lana Del Rey and every now and then I’ll do Hotel California by the eagles or System of the down aerials.

Singing makes my heart so happy 💕
As well as getting positive feedback from those who watch me :)

  • I'm a classically trained opera singer. I have not done anything professional since I was a kid, but I still love to sing and go to karaoke regularly. ❤️
