Stars of the show!

I've been rewatching The Good Place recently and as great as the whole cast is at each role,
I think D'Arcy Carden carried that show as Janet.
I think she outshines everybody else with what she was asked to do.
No knock to anybody else on the show, like I said they all did amazing at their roles.

Can you name a show where maybe the side character outshine the others?

  • Family Matters: Jaleel White as Steven Q Urkel

Oo that is a classic case.
He wasn't even suppose to be a big part of the show, just a throw away character

  • Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad. Originally only supposed to be in 3 episodes, became popular and was extended in the series, then starred in the spin off Better Call Saul which in my opinion and many others was superior to Breaking Bad and ran longer.

I never got into Breaking Bad
But I have heard of Better Call Saul

  • Another proposed spinoff: Breaking Bald, for someone beginning to lose their hair. Happened to me in the 1980's.

Jimmy Walker's J.J. character from Good Times basically took over the show, to the consternation of some of the other actors.

Ok this isn’t what you were asking, but Jesse Frederick, composer of such banger sitcom theme songs as Family Matters, Full House, Step by Step, and Perfect Strangers. Star of the show IMO 😂

  • Probably the first and best known was Fonzie on Happy Days

Was it? Or was it Don Knotts in The Andy Griffith Show? :)

  • Forgot about Don Knotts but not the same thing. Knotts was friends with Griffith and asked to be on the show and Griffith wanted him and he was a major player from the start by design. He was not in the first few episodes of the series, but once he started he was on pretty much the same footing every week.

Oops, you got me. My bad! How about Gomer Pyle, from the same show? He got his own spin-off. Does he count?

  • Wait a second… I got a message from you @Jova114 the other day… Something about Kristen Bell’s character… hahahaha. Now you’re telling me she’s not the star? Lol.

Swat for me! With Shemar Moore I found Netflix has the whole series I’m in binge watching heaven right now 😅😂

  • @BoomerSpooner - 100% agree with you about Saul Goodman. I can’t quite say he was better than the Walt and Jesse but he was so much more than a side character and I was happy to see him get the the spinoff series.

Lol first it was a compliment lol
