Float Tanks

  • I am so stoked to do this!

  • Well this is a bit of a coincidence, but me and another cuddler are planning on going to a Float tank soon. So I can give you my review on it, it's a bit pricey for the experience but I can let you know if it's worth it. I'm sure it is, might be like going skydiving or scuba diving, it's an experience that you might want to try at least once.

  • @Cuddly_Hedgehog
    Yes! Definitely share your experience!

  • @JohnR1972 - Thank you so much for sharing your experiences! Once I read "silver cord", I knew EXACTLY what you were talking about. I'm definitely going to go for a float now.

  • @notFromOhio - I have a monthly, unlimited float membership from the spa. For $130 per month I can float as much as I want. I am grandfathered at this price, new members are charged $200 per month for unlimited floating. I usually just do an hour float but I have done some that were 90 minutes and I agree it is a different experience.

  • @Cuddly_Hedgehog - the vast majority of my floats have been solo but I have done 2 tandem floats with other experienced “floaters”.

I strongly encourage anyone planning a tandem float to do a solo float first. It is such a unique experience I think both people would get much more out of a shared float if they had already experienced at least 1 solo float apiece.

  • @PixiePassions - LOL, I have no idea what would have happened if I had pulled on the silver cord but that just seemed like a really bad idea 😂

I hope you enjoy floating as much as I do and I look forward to hearing about your experience. My first 2 experiences were not that memorable - nothing bad, just nothing exciting.

The most “exciting” thing out of my very first float (in a true sensory deprivation tank) happened about 30 seconds after the lights went out. I felt something brush against my left calf. My mind instantly thought of the scene from the original Star Wars movie when Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia were in the trash compactor and the creature was swimming around under the surface 😂

My second thought was that something must have been lurking in the drain pipe and was now swimming around me. Then I realized how I ridiculous that really was and that I had just imagined something brushing against me and my mind was really spiraling out of control. I pushed all those thoughts out of my mind and enjoyed the rest of the float without feeling anything else in the water.

  • @JohnR1972 - Haha! And thank you again for sharing. I'll definitely update when I finally get a chance to do it.

  • @JohnR1972 - Don't worry, they have done it before alone and recommend for me to try it, so we planned to go together, get a meal together and make a day of it. They will obviously be in a separate tank but I can imagine we will share our shared experience afterwards by talking about it over a meal.

  • @Cuddly_Hedgehog - OK, I misunderstood and thought you were doing a tandem float. I’ve spent many hours floating in this tank at a local spa, most of the time floating alone but I have done 2 tandem floats in this tank.

  • I love float tanks - they're pretty awesome. Unfortunately the main one that was in our area let a little light in (so it was more of a sensory reduction experience than true sensory deprivation) plus now they've closed, but I plan to look for another one when I get a chance. I've also always wanted to try combining a float session with a self-hypnosis tape - that seems like an ideal environment to be highly open to good, positive hypnotic suggestions and/or affirmations.

  • Ok now I want to try a floating cuddle 🤔 Not the point of this post, I know, but that sounds super relaxing 🤤

  • Ok ok, I've tried this twice and not sure I got the full benefit of it, took me a long time to relax into it. But... I am definitely in for a floating cuddle (insert mind blown emoji). Great idea @Runawaycuddles

  • I have been floating for 30 years. There is nothing better. You feel so refreshed afterwards

  • Great way to explore your own mind! I love them!!

  • I'm for sure going to try a float tank in 2024. I've been tossing the idea around all year long.

  • I love and appreciate all the feedback!!

    Thank you everyone!

If someone decides to do it, come back here and share your experience!

  • Just went to one last night with a fellow cuddler, and I gotta say, it's quite nice! Definitely take your time adjusting to the surroundings of the pool with the lights on first, then for a more relaxing experience to turn the lights off and just drift off either in your thoughts or with no thoughts (I like to think and spend a relaxing time sorting out issues in my head, it's not for everyone but do as you please) Tip: if you keep drifting to the edge of the pool (like I was) best to keep your hands above your head just for safety and less of a surprise 😅 Take you time to unwind the time will fly faster when you get relaxed and comfortable. And like I said before, Definitely worth a try at least once. (I recommend trying it out after a stressful or a hard day of work, or when you feel you need a reset mentality or physically) So, try them out, they are fun!

  • @Cuddly_Hedgehog
    That awesome!
    I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
I want to go for a reset day. Just kind of reset all my senses, my mental and my body.
    I'm so stoked

  • @Cuddly_Hedgehog - you bring some very good points for first timers: take your time, get your bearings for the light switch, etc before going dark.

The driting thing is real! Sounds like you were in one of the larger tank / pool, but even in most "alien pod" tank you can drift and it can be disorienting when the exit is not where you expected.

Tip #2: bring a gym bag w/ spare towel and clothes you wouldn't mind bringing to the beach. Many facilities offer towels, etc. but there will be a lot of salt water in the room.

  • I've definitely missed going to the float tanks since the pandemic started. I moved just prior (Jan 2020), and my old home was just down the street from a mom-and-pop float spa that was perfect for me.

I'm curious if I can still tolerate them with my increased heart issues and heat intolerance now, or if they'd actually help 🤔 Now the closest places easily cost twice as much, though, so it's unlikely I'll be able to afford them any time soon.
