Saw this when I was very young. Apparently it's a rubbish movie, but I remember the nightmares!
This movie is probably not made as a horror film, but it packs a punch in that direction. A teenage boy has his innocence violently ripped away from him. I believe it is terrifying to anyone with empathy.

Still… Wolf Creek. 30,000 people go missing in Australia every year and some are never found again. Based off true events. Hamburger Hill. Although not a horror film is still pretty gruesome. Accurate military films are chilling.

Hands down my fave horror film/movie 🎥 starts off slow/corny but gosh I loved 🥰 😍🤩 the psychological aspects of the film once it picked up ⬆️

The grudge
Cannibal Holocaust resensitized me to horror films for a long long time. I to this day cannot watch any serial killer, Texas chainsaw type films.

Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark (1973 Movie) I turned it on one Saturday afternoon when I was about 7 or 8. I hate little creatures. Horror isn’t my genre.

@pmvines you read my mind. I was just watching a music theory breakdown of the final scene and sooooooo much of the eerie feeling makes extra sense now. The composer is a genius and used similar techniques in Midsommar, an equally unsettling one for the list.
For me it would be "Wolf Creek" an Australian movie, thinking about it still freaks me out (Not a good cuddle movie, LOL)

Underrated:
I can't say alot of movies disturb me, but I can definitely say this movie gave me the feeling of dread. Midori, which is a anime movie. Horrible horrible horrible, ugh, Its available on Youtube, check it out, is it scary? Not exactly, but thay what makes it such a good horror movie. Lol
The nightly news. Nothing is more horrifying than what people will actually do to other people in the name of greed, power, legacy or simply because it amuses them.
That's the best part! Furthermore, film and art, particularly horror, can be seen as an expression of the human psyche or a microcosm of one aspect of the human mind/fear/loathsomeness. They probably started as camp stories to entertain , and in the dark , when you're alone and it's cold, your mind imagines all sorts of stuff. I think it can have its place in addition to romantic, drama, comedy, and action. Or maybe it started as a tall tale or exaggeration of actual events.
An artsy comedy horror thriller I enjoyed recently was Glorious which is about a haunted glory hole. The premise is silly(obviously) but the dialogue in the movie was actually really amusing and witty. It is not pervy or anything so don't worry! I really suggest going in without spoilers.
The original(2003) korean version of Oldboy is also a good movie with a disturbing twist as well!
