What is your earliest Thanksgiving memory?

There is debate in the scientific community about the age at which children form and retain long term memories. The best answer seems to be “it depends” based on the person and the intensity of the experience.

With that said, what is your earliest childhood memory(s) related to Thanksgiving?

I was the youngest of 4 kids and at Thanksgiving it would be the 6 of us from my immediate family along with my grandma on my mom’s side and an aunt & uncle on my mom’s side and their 2 kids. However, what I remember most was hearing every Thanksgiving (and Christmas) how grandma “isn’t doing well” and this is probably her last Thanksgiving. I was probably 5 or 6 when I first started hearing grandma is “dying” and I was told that by my mother every Holiday season, for years and years. My grandma passed away when I was in my early 40s.

    Chugging bottles of martinelli's sparkling cider at the kids table with my Seattle cousins to see who could the quickest. Also, we have those holiday poppers we would pull and have little gifts inside. 💗

    Ah, the Holiday poppers! I didn’t know about those until I was in my 20s and living on my own but they are a fun tradition.

    I don’t remember much of it I just remember having to wait pretty much all day before we could eat. We’d all be starving and then the adults would want to talk after and we’d have to ask to be excused from the table so that we could play outside or Play in our rooms

    Your comment reminds me of a Mother’s Day card I saw a few years ago which read, “Dear Mom, I think about you all the time and talk about you every week… to my therapist.” 😂

    The first memory that came to mind was Thanksgiving at my in-laws home, but before we actually got married. Age 19. Then my next memory, which was an actual childhood memory was when I read @pmvines comment about the parade on tv. We did watch that as children.

    I think the reason I cannot remember a thanksgiving meal as a child is because my grandmother probably just cooked some baked chicken and other sides we had routinely, each Sunday. So I don’t think she did the actual feast that is common. And my mom did not cook much at all, so I know she didn’t cook one.
