Do You Sigh During a Cuddle?

When I cuddle, it usually isn't long before I heave an enormous sigh. A masseur I cuddled at a cuddle party told me that happens all the time with massage, and it's a normal response to touch. Almost. I researched it and found it was the body's way of getting more oxygen into the system to release toxins, which probably also helps you relax. I do sigh with massage and cuddles, but not always. However, with some people I cuddle with, I sigh deeply and rather frequently. To me, that signals that I'm with a good cuddler. Do you sigh when you cuddle?

  • Totally! I say "mmm" and sigh lot actually, haha.
Its a way of taking a deep breath and settling more into the moment, releasing any tension or tightness. It usually happens to me during guided meditations as well! taking deep/ slow breaths to get to a deep level of trance/comfort. :)

  • I've yet to learn more about myself. Though I've once or more sighed while hugging. Glad I am not the only one. Great, 'sigh' is a much fitting word that makes me more comfortable, than the word I thought of. :D

  • Both the mmmmmm sound and sighing are part of the body's response to a shift in brain state towards relaxation, so it makes a lot of sense that it happens when you cuddle. :)

  • I have never paid attention to whether I sigh or not. I may do it, but not been aware.
I do know that I sigh when I can't find a cuddle partner when I have the time, {sigh}.

  • If I'm sighing, I'm either relaxed or I'm getting there. Nothing's "wrong" with either as long as you're not being sexual about it.

  • Sighing is a good sign on the way to relaxing.

  • I definitely sigh while cuddling or just in general when relaxing. I think I forget to take deep breathes sometimes lol

  • I sigh or have that long deep relaxed breathe when relaxed usually in a long wrapped around one another hug, its great, it means I'm in the moment and aware of my breathing. what helps is when the other person is equally invested in being relaxed by cuddling, and in the moment as well.

If sighing is a sign of relaxation then I guess that's why I don't do it lol! I'm more of a quiet cuddler.

  • Not really but my partners usually do

I think it is a natural response to cuddling. :) Or to being at peace with someone in general.

It's your body saying "thank you" to your cuddler ;)

  • Yep! I never thought about the physiology behind it before... interesting!

It depends. If I'm in a point where I am becoming relaxed and comfortable, then yes. But there are those times where I can't seem to relax, either because of stress or I just can't get comfortable. Those times I don't always sigh or anything.

Having only had my first session so far, I felt the urge to sigh, but restrained it, as to avoid controversy, haha.

Good old anxiety; paid or not, here is a lovely, young female who is putting a wealth of trust in me with physical proximity and I do NOT want to ruin it.

  • I think it's a very positive part of the cuddling experience. I know my partner is totally relaxed when I hear her sigh .. I know I am.

  • I most definitely sigh when cuddling! I'm a massage therapy student, and just about all my clients from the student clinic do as well...cuddling feels to good not to lol.

  • My dog does that when I cuddle her. LOL.

  • Seriously though... I think I do as well. I guess my dog will say the same about me, too. I am just not aware about it. :)

  • @cease2exist Yes exactly! I try not to do it to avoid any weird situations! ?
@BlueIris I sigh a lot but it can be creepy when a guy does it haha and then you question their intentions so i try not to do it...??

Yawning and sighing can also mean that your brain, absorbed with some important activity, signals for more oxygen, to handle the workload. I sign, when I am overwhelmed (in a good way), with great vibes.
Thinking of certain places, people, events, wakes long-dormant "cuddle cells" in my brain, which helps me enjoy the moment! grin

  • LOL. I didn’t have my contacts in, and I’m majorly Dyslexic anyway. I thought it said DO YOU SING DURING A CUDDLE? I thought, how wierd! Now I can go back and read the rest of the comments.
