@lesmis33 I am with you. My comments were not meant to imply a pro (or enthusiast) can’t have a vetting process. By all means they should and if their client / fellow enthusiast is agreeable to giving their full identity there is nothing to stop them from doing a public records search (sex offender registry, court records, Google, etc.).
I simply stated the term “background check” is used loosely on this website. A full background check is relatively expensive and, to the best of my knowledge, requires the written consent of the person whose background is being searched.

I think sometimes it’s a fake excuse and I’m always a bit suspicious. The reason to lie about it is that it makes it seem like it was a tragedy that was out of someone’s control instead of just them being irresponsible. You end up feeling bad for someone instead of just thinking they screwed up. Of course it CAN happen for real but it seems to be used a bit too much.
We can always ask for the stats on all members, E, C, P and those that ghost, time waste and do not pay the cancellation fees.
If a Pro cancels and does not work with you to offer a discount for rescheduling that is on them and you can report for that as well.
But the ageism and anti pro sentiment is always running high in these forums.
Suggesting to sue and pay more for small claims or civil torts over a cuddle is quite outrageouS IMO. This type of chatter could deter more enthusiasts' and pros. Maybe it is intestinal or not.
I get the fake excuse all the time "my work is sending me somewhere else or I have a family emergency." But then they complete a cuddle with someone else or were taking me off the board the damage my earning capacity.
So I understand the booking of many pros to then "pick the one" you "want" the most and cancel on the rest. This does also happen,
To err is human and again, to be KIND costs nada.
LIfe happens, stuff happens, but to generalize all Pros, enthusiasts' -especially the females, and drive manipulation into stilling them to be quiet and scared is not cool.

Yet one more reason to keep all communication through the site - there’s a record of it that is easily accessible to the moderators. If a complaint is filed, they are able to access the communications, including at what time they occurred, so if a pro cancels after the fact, they can see that. And if a client cancels well enough in advance, they can see that, too. If communication is taken off site then it is harder to establish those facts.
Also highlights why one might book with more established pros who have a track record.
Unfortunately, a lot of those with pro status are not very professional. They are doing this as a side gig and often don’’t have strong professional sensibilities. That’s just the reality of the situation. If one has the option of an established pro who has been doing this for awhile and has a good track record, that would be optimal. It’s not always an option.

@carrieanne - The grandma comment was really aimed at the people who use “grandma’s medical emergency” as an excuse. Clear back in the 1980s I heard fellow students regularly giving that excuse to college professors for missing class or not having their assignments completed on time.
FWIW - I have never felt that I have been discriminated against due to my age and personally, if someone has an upper “age limit” they are comfortable with, I would prefer them to (politely) say so in their profile to save us both the time and hassle of attempting to book a session. Although it really doesn’t even matter to me any more. Last summer I connected with an incredible enthusiast and I haven’t booked any pros since then.
That said, I have read comments in both forum posts and profiles that could legitimately be construed as discriminatory.
As for people filing frivolous lawsuits, I forgot that never happens in the U.S. (cough, cough) 😂
Red Bull was not only sued but lost and forced to pay a $13 million settlement in 2014 when they were sued for false advertising over their drinks not being as energizing as their commercials implied. Subway was also sued, and lost, for advertising “foot long” sandwiches that were only 11” long (the case was later overturned on appeal).
But my favorite was Pepsi being sued for “breach of contract” for not giving a military combat jet to a customer who had accumulated 7 million “Pepsi Points”
