What Are Your Favorite Colors?

[Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

It turns out that there is a psychology behind the colors you are drawn to. Here is what each of the colors represent.

The color red: Power, energy, passion, desire, speed, strength, power, heat, love, aggression, danger, fire, blood, war, violence, intensity, celebration, luck, stop or danger, Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

The color yellow: Joy, optimism, happiness, danger, sunshine, idealism, imagination, hope, summer, gold, deceit, philosophy, dishonesty, cowardice, betrayal, jealousy, disease and warning.

The color green: Nature, environment, health, good luck, renewal, youth, vigor, spring, generosity, fertility, jealousy, inexperience, envy, misfortune, start signal, St. Patrick’s Day and Christmas.

The color blue: Peace, harmony, unity, trust, truth, security, confidence, conservatism, order, sky, water, cold, technology, cleanliness, depression, loyalty, immortality, stability, masculinity and protection.

The color purple: Royalty, nobility, spirituality, ceremony, mystery, transformation, wisdom and enlightenment.

The color orange: Energy, balance, warmth, enthusiasm, vitality, expansion, flamboyant, autumn and Halloween.

The color gray: Safety, reliability, intelligence, melancholy, modesty, dignity, maturity, soundness, functionality, old age and grief.

The color brown: Earth, hearth, home, outdoors, reliability, comfort, endurance, stability, simplicity, comfort, trees, nature and autumn.

The color white: Reverence, virginity, nothingness, cleanliness, peace, humility, precision, innocence, youth, birth, winter, snow, goodness, marriage, cold, clinical and sterility.

The color black: Power, sophistication, formality, elegance, wealth, mystery, fear, evil, anonymity, unhappiness, depth, style, sad, remorse, anger, underground, technical, grief and death.

My favorite colors are red, black, and gray. I would like to think I am the positive aspects of those colors, not the negative. :P How about you guys? What are your favorite colors? Do you think the descriptions of the colors fit you in some way? I am curious to know.

  • My favorites are green and purple; love the meanings behind it <3

@Brandi That's really neat. :) My mom is also a pretty big fan of the colors green, purple, and yellow. I think she likes yellow the best out of the three. But I think green is a second favorite of hers because it is her birthstone color (emerald).

  • Red, and you forgot to mention socialism and communism on that one.

  • [Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

@tallteddy Red is one of my favorite colors as well. :) I didn't think about adding political details to each color but you have a point. There have been colors associated with various political movements throughout history. That is a very interesting subject in itself.

    Interesting
I have stated that green and orange are my favorite colors for as long as I can remember being asked that.
My mom even knitted a vest of those colors for my birthday when I was in 7th grade.
I remember the teasing I took from many people for wearing it.
    Still love those colors

  • Technically black and white are not colors

  • My favorite color is Blue!

Purple. It's a shame it's considered to be a 'feminine' colour. It's almost impossible to find any men's clothes in purple.

  • [Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

@ramjet That is an interesting color combination for sure. It reminds me a lot of the fall. :) My mom likes green a lot too because her birthstone is an emerald.

@Morpheus You are correct. I believe in art terms black would be the presence of all colors (like what happens when you mix all of the colors together). And white would be the absence of all colors. Unless you are thinking of something clear that can reflect light like a prism and in that case it would reflect all of the colors, or be a medium for the colors to travel through. :)

@Beautiful1 Blue is a nice color. I tend to wear a lot of blue and cooler shades because they go better with my skin tone than reds, pinks, or warmer colors. :)

@UKGuy I actually have a few male friends who like purple and wear it a lot (like purple ties, hats, and whatever else they can find). I think purple looks nice on guys. Even pink looks good in my opinion. If it looks good, and you feel confident, you should wear what you want. :)

  • Black and red are my favorites, but orange is acceptable also, though I wouldn't wear it.

  • [Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

@BrianL I also like black, red, (and gray). :) Orange is a very vibrant color. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever owned something (in terms of clothing) that was completely orange. :P Maybe I should challenge myself to wear an orange hat or something one these days.

In middle school I used to have this yellow hoodie I would wear all of the time, mostly because it was warm and comfortable (these are some major requirements when it comes to clothing for me). My friends used to joke and call me 'Starburst' (because of the yellow starburst). lol

Two colours I think I have hardly ever worn are yellow or orange. I bought an orange shirt years ago but it's never been out of my closet. On the other hand, I think yellow or orange sports cars look really good. And even though purple is my favourite colour, I wouldn't want a purple car. So I think some colours I like just for particular things.

@UKGuy I actually have an interesting story involving the color purple. When I was growing up, I lived in this neighborhood close to the downtown area. The neighbors were all a bit picky about how the neighborhood was represented I guess because it was a historic part of town. Anyway, we had this one neighbor who painted their house purple and painted the trim around the Windows and stuff green. I always thought the house was a lot of fun but the neighbors hated it and I think the home owners were eventually pressured by the city to turn it into an 'acceptable house color'. So the purple house didn't last long. :/

  • @MoonlightSonata Well, I identify orange with Halloween, which is my favorite holiday. For the most part my wardrobe consists of black, which to me is a color of protection.

  • [Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

@BrianL I also associate orange with Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the fall in general.

I have a lot of black clothing in my wardrobe too because black is one of my favorite colors besides red and gray. This is why I have a lot of gray clothes as well. :p I've been trying to challenge myself to buy other colors so now I have just about every color except orange, red, and pink mostly because I don't think I personally look good in those colors of clothes. I gravitate towards greens, blues, and cooler shades when it comes to clothes even though they aren't my favorite colors.

  • Grey is my favorite, followed closely by brown, teal, aqua, dusty rose, violet, and emerald green.

Most yellow and orange shades utterly repulse me, but i can appreciate their use as accent colors.

  • [Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

@Thellie Yellow and orange are definitely very vibrant colors. They are good as accents for sure. They always remind me of the fall when they are together or even the summer if they are warmer shades of yellow and orange.

I'm also a huge fan of gray (as well as black and red as I mentioned before).

I like to wear a lot of cool shades (such as greens and blues) even though they aren't my favorite colors.

Dusty rose and violet are both very pretty colors. They make good accent colors as well. :)

  • @MoonlightSonata I wear a TON of grey and red, but have started making my closet a bit more vibrant with my LLR clothes and a mini Torrid clearance shopping spree from my bestie. It's fun seeing new pops of color, like blues!

  • Blue and White for me, the meanings behind them both are pretty interesting it seems

  • [Deleted User]Cris033 (deleted user)

I adore green and black, but i pretty much love any color that looks natural and faded away.

  • [Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

@Thellie It is always good to change things up every once in a while and try new things. :)

  • [Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

@Rayni Those are both really nice colors. Blue and white together always reminds me of the ocean.

  • [Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

@Cris033 I love black too (and also grey and black). Green is one of my mom's favorite colors since her birthstone is an emerald.

I'm also a fan of natural colors/ hues because I love the outdoors and being in nature in general. :)

  • Does anyone have a job where they have to work with colors?

  • [Deleted User]MoonlightSonata (deleted user)

    @Morpheus I am an artist/ graphic artist/ photographer if that counts. :)
