I like to build things, woodworking or electronics are my thing. Anyone else here into this sort of nerdiness? What have you made? What are your challenges? What are your tools?
Did you have to remind me of these two on Friday night?

Does installing store bought cabinets count? I did my own kitchen and bathroom vanities, and hired out the stone countertops. Also, remodeled my bathrooms with help from my parents. Biggest challenge is looking at the shotty "professional" work from 40 years ago, and knowing I can do it much better. Most challenges can be solved with the abundance of Youtube videos and asking tons of questions at the store. Otherwise, the real challenge is holding oneself accountable to completing a project.
Sure, it very much counts. To me, the best part of that is looking at your surroundings and believing you don't have to just live with it, you can make things better. You can apply your creativity to turn your space into someplace that gives you a feeling of joy and accomplishment as you look around. Kudos to what you did with your kitchen and bathroom. BTW, those two rooms are the most important to increasing the value of your home.
@1_teddybear That's awesome...great skills to have! I want to learn how to build things! So I may need your expertise. The only tools I have is a drill set
IMO, the best way to learn to make things is to just start making... and know that the first things you make are probably not going to make you proud. But you keep at it until you get to the point where you like seeing your handiwork around you. The rest is joy.

@DaveFromSussex : I sometimes generalize DIY projects to "puzzles". Recently, I solved a Rubiks cube for the first time with help from Youtube and some online tips, and had to think "Did I cheat?". Later realized everything that I have analyzed or solved have been puzzles too, and between work and personal projects, Google was a huge help.
@1_teddybear : I was able to juggle both bathrooms, so I didn't demo both of them at the same time. I think it took 4-7 months' of weekends to chip away at the shower. I had to level the old sunken shower, move the plumbing up to modern and new height, and figure out the rest when the walls weren't completely flush with the stem walls. The kitchen and guest bath took less time in comparison. I just dined at my parents' house. lol
@warmbearhugs It's one thing to do improvements when you start with walls floor and ceiling that are plum. It's quite another to correct for oddities and end up with a wonderful result. Very impressive.

Sure, there's a broccoli sprout growing robot. Some heated gloves to keep my fingers warm on winter walks. A 3D printed shower caddy. And a mini chest-of-drawers I made for my mother.
Home Improvement was one of my favorite shows!
Oh totally! I make a living as an electrical engineer, but I am also very good with my hands. The most fun thing I ever built was an Electronic etch-a-sketch toy out of vintage 74 series TTL Logic Chips (NO microprocessors). It won second prize in the Dangerous Prototypes TTL Contest a little more than 10 years ago.
I also single-handedly gut-renovated my first house and can fix anything but a broken heart!

@EnergyHealer11 - A drill set is a great start!!! I always had my daddy's tools growing up, and when I first moved out on my own he gave me a drill set and a small tool box with a few other assorted tools like a small hammer, pliers, and screw drivers. He always told me that it didn't matter if a person is a boy or a girl, that everyone should be able to fix the simple things themselves without having to rely on someone else.
So let out your inner tomboy and just TRY stuff!!! Tools are FUN to have and work with!!!!
@warmbearhugs - OMG...I agree with @1_teddybear, that is quite impressive!! My husband was good at figuring stuff out like that too. I haven't done anything myself that hard, but I'm always willing to try to fix the easy stuff myself. I figure if it's already messed up and I mess it up a little more, who cares!!! The person I get to fix it if I can't won't know if I don't tell them!! Tee hee!!!
