In Australia at least, the algorithm for calculating the distance of cuddlers from you needs reworking. From my location, most of them are listed as "16 miles," even though their real distances varies greatly.
It's not just you. I've noticed in my area the distance estimate is usually about 40% low when compared with google maps.
I get accurate distances, but my problem is being on Long Island, if I set my distance parameters to 50 miles, the algorithm defaults to a 50 mile radius, and I get matches in Connecticut and New Jersey

I don’t think most people know this but you can enter your zip code as your location and it will give you a more accurate location. Example, some people list Los Angeles but Los Angeles is a large city so entering a zip code will narrow it down. Also, some people will for example, enter Los Angeles but they aren’t in Los Angeles, it just happened to be the largest city near them and that can add to the confusion.
@1_teddybear From Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey are only 50 miles away in a straight line. “As the crow flies.” But, the driving distance is different and it's a major hassle to get off of Long Island. You have to drive all the way west to the bridges and pay crazy tolls and battle insane traffic and aggressive New Yorkers. 😋 At least that’s how I remember it. I grew up on Long Island. 😂
Michigan mitten here, surrounded by lakes except on our southern border. Wisconsin and northern Illinois show up in my searches often. "As a bird flies," they're less than 200 miles away. Actual driving is 300-400 miles or more.
@Erin_Elle_ Thank you for the clarification. I had no idea. Perhaps the site could use a gps directions program to get the distance values instead.

One relative assumption that I’ve semi-proved is the distances I’ve evaluated fit closer to “as the crow flies”, not actual drive miles. Your mileage may vary.
