That's funny. 😆 My boyfriend and I are both long-time vegans (him 10+ years, me 6+), and when we adopted our dog, I knew I wanted to try giving him vegan dog food. Believe it or not, it's a totally normal, easy to find brand - they sell it at Petco and Chewy.com.
We introduced it to him by slowly mixing it in with the shelter's brand, and he's been on a solely vegan diet for three years, now.
He's a very healthy, energetic dog, with a shiny coat and no medical issues. His vet is very happy and says he is the perfect weight. If he had ever, or does ever show any signs of poor health, lethargy, irregularity, or anything concerning, I would absolutely put my moral preferences to the side, and transition him back to a meat-based diet. 🤎🖤
As it stands, he loves his vegan kibble, as well as table scraps, which are all vegan, in our house. 🤭 His favorites are peanuts, vegan chicken, the occasional barbecue chip, blueberries, and spinach (he's clearly trying to show mama how to be healthy. Sorry, pupkin, I hate spinach!). He has a random, strong aversion to the smell of pear tea. 😅
Here's him and his duckie. He loves his duckie. 💜 (Okay maybe he loves pretending to chase, capture, maim, kill, and eat his duckie, in this stifling vegan household. 😏)
