  • Are we really attracted to “attractive people” or do we call someone “attractive” because we are attracted to them?

What makes someone attractive? A big part of the answer is familiarity, that is why there are so many workplace affairs - a person becomes attracted to a co-worker not because of objective beauty standards but because over time they get to know each other and the familiarity makes them seem more attractive.

“Studies have shown that we are attracted to what is familiar to us, and that repeated exposure to certain people will increase our attraction toward them.” This is a quote from a Psychology Today article in the link below.

  • Advantages of choosing attractive men:

    • They have lots of options. This actually makes them safer, because they are unlikely to fixate on you and become a stalker. It also makes them a challenge for a woman. She wants to know she's so attractive, she can hook anyone, which is a big ego boost.
    • They have lots of experience. This means they know what to say and when to say it. Also, they know what NOT to say. It's been very interesting for me to watch men ditch conversations because it's not setting them up for a night with some girl at the table. Meanwhile, she never feels that awkward feeling of "why isn't he making a move" or "why isn't he dancing with me" which takes away from her self-image of being a super attractive lady.
    • They make her look good. Nobody is going to be asking her, why are you with that hot guy? Chances are, they'll want him too.
