Seriously though, I hope Sunset is doing well, she is an amazing person and has been unusually quiet for a while.
Like I said, if I had done this the week before or the week after, it could look very different about who is in the top 10. But I think the general idea that about 200 per week post in the forum is probably a fairly stable number and the idea that the top 20% of people posting are responsible for about 75% of the posts is also probably fairly stable.
I'm surprised I posted even that much tbh, I pretty much hang around the same two/three threads 😅

I would have guessed 22 for myself. I think it was an up week for me. But what I'm getting from this information is the small amount of people engaging tends to show where the tone is coming from. The good and the bad. There is an unhealthy discourse for the most part, in my opinion, that happens. This should tell us all the types of things we are engaging in. It also tells me that whether my intentions are great or not that i contribute to thing that overall are not. That is why i find it less than beneficial to add anything.

@OhioMike I made a thread about that data back around May 30, 2024 (plus or minus 2 days, I didn’t look up the exact date).
I took a list of the largest cities in the United States then went to a website I use that gives the allowed me to find the population that lives within 50 miles of that city. I chose 22 of the 25 largest cities in the U.S. (skipping 3 of them because they were within 100 miles of another city on the list and I wanted to avoid overlaps).
I then looked up the number of cuddlers, active within the previous 30 days, who lived within 50 miles of those 22 cities. The total population of the U.S. that live within 50 miles of those 22 cities was around 1/3 of the U.S. population so I extrapolated the total number of cuddlers. The estimate came out to something like 40,638 but that assumes the ratio of cuddlers on CC to general population in the U.S. is constant between urban and more rural areas. So 40.6K monthly U.S. CC users is my best estimate but that number is probably +/- 10%
My takeaway on your data is that the vast majority of CC users don't participate in the forums. Anecdotally, I can say that when I mention forum threads to the pros who I meet, most (maybe 2/3rd) say that they don't read or post in the forums.
What @Jubal said has been my experience with pros. I would say those who don’t read the forums is higher than 66%.

I am sure everyone has encountered a pro that asked “What are the forums?”
While the data is interesting, I think longer term metadata would be more useful. I think people tend to get stuck in the heat of here-and-now online and forget about what happened a week ago, a month ago, etc.
Using myself as an example: while I was a top contributor this week, I just came back from a two month break. While I know some would argue the point with me, having read through topics I missed, it seems like it was a lot of "business as usual" without my influence - meaning my not posting for two months did not change the overall culture of the forums, just as my posting upon my return does not. It would be interesting to see if the data backs up my observations.
And for all the cracks about word counts and volume - I'd be more interested there as always in impact on engagement, quality>quantity, and how we'd even judge that objectively in this format. Would we use some form of rubric? As a teacher you become a bit of a data nerd out of necessity, and I've leaned into that with my side gigs since moving out of the classroom, so I'm interested in the cogs and gears at work here
