What's your irl d&d character?

I was wondering about this question earlier today and I'm curious what my fellow nerds on here would say.

If you were to create a d&d character sheet of yourself as you are in real life, what would you be?
What would your class be? Fantasy race? What about your alignment?

For me I'd be a neutral good Tiefling Oathbreaker Paladin who multiclassed in Rogue 🤔

    There was a D&D type game called star frontiers It was also made by TSR back in the 80s and this would’ve been the race or a character I would’ve been.

    Dralasite is a fictional alien race in the Star Frontiers science fiction role-playing game. They are one of the four main races in the game, along with humans, Vrusk, and Yazirians. Dralasites are:

    • Amphibious: They can live in both water and on land.
    • Shape-shifters: They can change their shape to adapt to different situations.
    • Blob-like: They have a fluid, amoeba-like physiology.
    • Intelligent: They are highly intelligent and have a complex society.

    @lonelytauros Oooo, I love that! That's one of my favorite things about fantasy, there really are no limits on what you can imagine and you can find yourself represented in some of the wildest places. It's awesome 😍

    Half-elf wizard/fighter, hands down. Extremely bookish, helpless without my library; most likely an evoker or transmuter due to my fascination with macro- and micro-physics. I also was a member of the SCA for a time, and learned to wear plate armor and fight with sword and targe.
    Ancestry -wise, I'm a second generation nerd, as my father owns a full bookshelf of Tolkien and actually speaks a fair amount of Sindarin, while my mother is far more down to earth, albeit in a Wiccan sort of way. The fact that everyone on my father's side doesn't tend to start showing their age until their 60s or so only reinforces the fit.

    Often, I like to believe that I'm chaotic good, but, the truth is... I'm lawful good.

    I think I'd be an intelligent bard. I love reading and writing, though I'm not always in it for the learning aspect. I love beach reads, smutty fantasy (and non-smutty fantasy), cheesy love stories, etc. I'm generally charismatic, but I have a very unique flavor of humor, which only appeals to the other neurodivergent folks in my life.

    As for my ancestry... I'd like to think I'm a half-elf and that I'm somehow connected to the Fey world. Anything to not be related to my father. Heh.

    I love D&D so much. I currently play a Triton Fighter and she is fantastic.

    Fun question. I love tabletop rpgs, and not being in a regular game is a huge hole in my life right now. 🎲

    I am unfamiliar with the more crunchy, recent versions of D&D so I'll stick to the OD&D three-booklet set.

    With that in mind, I'd definitely be a human cleric.

    Neutral Good, Orc*ish Ranger here! I was always the weird nerd in my rural family of construction workers, race car drivers, hunters, etc. In college, I was the guy that actually knew how to set up camp, explain a NASCAR reference, use power tools, etc.

    If the Ranger is framed as a bridge between wilderness and civilization, then I know exactly how that feels.

    @Runawaycuddles do you have any background on what makes you good demonspawn? What oath did you break?!

    Loving this thread! I also think the illusionist minotaur is perfect revenge fantasy against matadors 🤣

    @Runawaycuddles Alignment? Hmm. Well, everybody likes to think that they're the good guys, don't they? That said, most likely Neutral Good. I'm not as reflexively rebellious as I once was.

    I'm familiar with D&D but don't really play. However I'm currently in NYC and went to the Off-Broadway show with my daughter this weekend called "Dungeons & Dragons: The Twenty-Sided Tavern". It was an absolute blast and I'd recommend it to any D&D fan (or any type of gamer, really) if you happen to find yourself in New York.

    Cool question and great answers. I feel a kinship to Runawaycuddles. I think I'd be a chaotic good human oathbreaker Paladin who multiclassed in Rogue. We'd have a lot to drink to 😁

    Lawful Good Human Paladin + Wizard multiclass (which I admit is not optimized in the slightest).

    For wizard, I love learning about new things and finding ways to apply or talk about said knowledge. And magic is fun!

    For paladin, I am very idealistic and believe deeply about causes and people.

    I've been thinking about this for a while. I think I would be a neutral good elven bard. My artistic expression is through words, music, and movement. And I'm a very affectionate person, and a little strange or possibly even slightly otherworldly. And based on various interactions over the years, my charisma seems to be reasonably high.

    On a related note, I recently saw a production of the play "She Kills Monsters" (about someone who tries to get to know her sister, who died in a car accident, by playing a module she wrote). I highly recommend it.

    @ZacRedBear I love how clearly that fits! I think when a lot of people picture a ranger they tend to think more along the lines of a nature obsessed outcast, but it's the blending of the two worlds that really make that class work, and you nailed that.

    As for what makes me a good demonspawn, the similarities between descriptions of tieflings lives and my life experiences are eerily similar, so that's fun. My disabilities make me an outcast a lot (especially the 'tism, which fits the "unsettling aura" aspect), and while my personality is generally very proud, self reliant and slow to trust, when my trust is earned it's ironclad.

    Usually when people think of Oathbreaker Paladins they picture someone who made an oath to a god of light and by breaking that oath they become evil, but in my case my oath was to an evil god (like the tieflings who worship Asmodeus), that was viewed as a good god by those in my environment. Realizing that the god was actually evil and taking a stand against him broke my oath, so here I am! 🤘🏻

    Isn't it a fun concept? I kinda want there to be a nerdy dating/friend finding app that uses this for profile building. It's just works on so many levels!

    @StarkPangolin Niiiice! Yeah I was definitely raised with a very black and white, binary system of morality so I wanted to be lawful good, but in reality I turned out to be neutral good in practice 😂

    @marth I love that! I think a lot of really good and interesting builds don't get played as much as they should simply because they aren't optimal, and I think that's kinda sad. Because yeah, paladin + wizard is awesome!
    I say screw optimization and just be yourself 🤘🏻

    @Runawaycuddles I'm actually playing an elven bard in a Pathfinder 2 campaign right now. The origin of the character is a fun story.

    I decided to play a bard, since the last time I played one was AD&D 2nd ed. I decided that she'd be an elf and also very good at disguise - in other words, an elvish impersonator. I hadn't thought of a name yet, though, so during character creation when I was asked what her name was, I blanked for a few seconds, then came up with Ilyana. A good elven name, I think. I also hadn't decided what her alignment would be, but I did decide I wouldn't play her with the traditional bard alignment of chaotic horny.

    The group I was joining was about to explore the undead-infested Necropolis. I was already thinking in directions of being a loremaster, so I decided to make her a student of archaeology, and joining the group to explore the Necropolis was part of her final dissertation. I made her a student at this world's equivalent of a major English university, and her alignment was neutral acquisitive.

    Then I thought about the fact that I had an archaeologist named Ilyana who goes around collecting artifacts, and decided that she was Ilyana Jenos, student of archaeology. And her starting weapons were a whip and a hand crossbow.

    @AXoshijuac I think it's because humans in d&d are described in a kinda bland way compared to the other races. 🤔 They have some defining features, but because we are already familiar with humans they didn't really put a lot of elbow grease into making them both distinct and relatable like they did with the other races. 🤷🏼

    Bit of an older thread now, but if necromantic in aspect, certainly low level.

    Some interesting characters and discussion on this thread. I noticed that a new edition of D&D dropped so I picked up the three core books the other day. So far they seem pretty good and the game looks like it is still enjoyable.

    @Runawaycuddles: I agree that humans mechanically are kind of bland and if they have any flavor it is through their culture in games where that matters where social aspects are highlighted versus the wargamer-dungeon crawling style that was popular when I was introduced to rping back in ancient times. That seems unsatisfactory to me, but there it was-is without some sort of house rules. The new version of the game continues this tradition of blandness unfortunately, while calling humans "versatile."

    As a DM who has players who like humans and wants them to be more mechanically interesting with the work of making up a bunch of different rules for varying cultures, I'm considering a simple fix: humans are the only characters in the game who can multi-class.

    Anyway, I wore a D&D shirt to acting class last week and it turns out unsurprisingly that several people play and we got into a "what class would you be in real life" but we had to guess each other's and then after we revealed.

    Again, unsurprisingly, two said Bard, one Wizard, and all three said I was a Monk, lol. They were surprised that I said Cleric, and I guessed Rogue for the Wizard.

    Hm, my off-the-cuff response is "half-elven druid/fighter/magic-user/thief" because I often feel like a mixed breed jack of all trades.

    Actually, I suppose it would be possible to be a half-elf cleric/ranger/magic-user/thief if you were neutral good.
