I'm concerned about long standing people in our community appearing deactivated. Is there a bug? Or does anyone know what's going on that these people are intentionally leaving? :-(
It's good that it's a de-activation though. That suggests an intent to return after a break.
I bet people are just choosing to do so. I know of at least one long-standing female cuddler who recently decided to deactivate for personal reasons.
Maybe others are deciding to take a break for the summer?
Is there an opportunity to give a reason when someone deactivates? It might be a good idea to allow that.
@UKGuy I would say that is getting too personal. This is an at will site. If someone wishes to freely deactivate or delete their profile they don't really owe a reason for it. If they want someone to know why I am sure they will tell them.
@pmvines - I envisaged it would be optional, so no-one would have to give a reason, but if they wanted to, they could.
Would be complicated, programming wise, but it would be nice if it said "______ is taking a break from the site, but will be back" or whatever other reason they give. Or if someone could write an away message, kind of like you can with emails, to display when trying to view their profile. I didn't realize taking a break and temporarily deactivating your account was normal on here, so was confused. Sorry O:-)
I have seen several people post if the forums that they are leaving or taking a hiatus or whatever before deactivating. I also have seen people not deactivate but in the about me section state they are on hiatus. Up to the person if they wanna do this I suppose

Hello everyone, I went from 30 employees to 80 this year so I’ve been deactivating my profile because I find I spend a lot of time on here when I really need to focus on work. I’m alive and well and miss the community but need to make sure I take care of business before pleasure.
Asked a woman I talk to why she deactivated she said too many guys messaging at once it overwhelming. She prolly not coming bak
@ubergigglefritz actually as someone who has written some programs it seems like it would be extremely easy? I don't do java or webpage stuff, but I can't imagine it would be difficult to save a string and display it?
Why not respect people's privacy? If they wanted you to know why they deactivated, they would have told you.
@BlueIris You are right to a point. But I can also see wanting to quickly come and go without having to worry about going through my messages to figure out all of who I want to warn. Much simpler to leave a blanket statement for everyone, if desired. I would have, and had, the same reaction when someone deactivates on Facebook without posting about it first. Sorry if I offended you in my concern about people I have grown connected with. Is what you're saying that I should value the connections here less and not give flying rat's a$$ when people disappear? But essentially you are right. I just feel sad, because I DON'T value them less.
@JasonCuddles Not too bad I guess. Another entry in the database of information, connected to username, and then pulling it up on the deactivation trigger page. But everything is always trickier than it sounds when it comes to programming, lol.
I try many sites and have come across some who ask "why are you leaving/deleting?" And they* almost make it mandatory for entry. I get that they use the feedbacks for site improvements, though it gets annoying (when I have no reason, or I could change hundreds of things about the site) and I just enter "no". I personally like the lack of entry here. Sometimes someone doesn't want to state an aproximafe comeback date, or reason (which there are a few) for leaving. Though if it got implemented as optional... that wouldn't be so bad. Though I'd encourage it say "Optional" (so nobody who doesn't know it's optional, doesn't feel pressured to provide a reason) and that it requires no entry.
Edit: also some sites I have noticed make the delete and or deactivate options not so easy to find. I hate this because if someone wants to leave, making that option difficult to find is just a time waste and a bit of frustration.
I have also noticed at least one site that after deleting my account it said "we will keep your account for one year, if this was a mistake and you wish to come back, "log back in" or was it, "write to us" to activate your account." This was utterly something, didn't like it one bit. I don't mind if deleting, it asks for confirmation or asks to re-enter (password and email), though any more than that is going too far.

That length of time is completely unreasonable. On CC we will eventually hold deleted accounts but only for 30 days. This will allow people to change their mind but more importantly, it will improve our ability to block people who quickly delete their account after breaking the rules.
@Mark yes, that sounds a reasonable time especially with the reasons you gave. A year/months, certainly too far. ?
