Scammer warning - or how I should have listened to my inner spidey sense

edited August 2024 in General

So it finally happened, after having a dozen or more great experiences on the website, I fell to a scammer.

I reported her to the website and left a poor Karma rating but I blame myself for not seeing the warnings. Not wanting to talk on the phone, only text, not wanting me to come to her apartment, but asking for a deposit to show I was "real" even after driving an hour to arrive, before she would send the apt #, only to send her a small deposit via Cashapp to be immediately blocked on text and the website.

Live and learn as they say.... Shame on her for taking advantage of a nice guy, but shame on me for not having my guard up.

  • I’m sorry this happened to you but thanks for reporting her. You did the weight thing.

  • Sorry that happened my friend. The opposite end of that is when enthusiast women ask for a number immediately. And as nice as that sounds it’s always a red flag too.

I’ve never been asked for a deposit up front, maybe because I have a track record, but then so do you…hmmm... Oh well, like you said live and learn, take the hit, and (as U2 says) Walk On…

  • Sorry to hear that. Never send cash for a product or service unseen, cuddling or otherwise.

Thank you for reporting the scammer. If only everyone was as quick to report every other rule breaker. 😆 Nothing hits quite like the wallet, I guess.

I'm curious how much a "small deposit" was, and if it is something you can recover from Cashapp? I'm sorry that happened to you.

  • The scammer deactivated her account. (I checked it before a mod removed the link)

  • Im so upset for you.. thats not cool.. she will get her Karma

  • It was half her hourly rate - $50 bucks.

  • TY Huggaboo_baby - sorry we didn't connect when I was out in Scottsdale - hopefully next time I'm out there I get a chance to meet you.

  • @WR9966 Just wondering, did you have a bad gut feeling about it, and still went through with it? Or no bad gut feeling?

  • Goes to show women aren't the only ones that have to watch out for predators...
Sorry this happened, sometimes we give people the benefit of the doubt when we shouldn't, I've definitely been burned a few times myself. Buuuut it could still be worse, so I'm glad you didn't lose more than what you did.

  • @TeddyCuddle45 - It's a bummer, but losing $50 isn't on the same planet as being sexually assaulted or worse.

  • I never said it was... an as someone who has been sexually assaulted I'm very well aware of the gravity of such things..

  • My experience has been if your "Spidey sense" kicks in, something may be amiss. Sorry for your negative experience. This is more an exception than the norm.

  • One way to tell if you’re real would have been “look out the window and see me waving at you.” Why does $50 prove that you’re more real than that? I can see why your spidey sense was tingling.

  • Sucks man, but this 50 dollars theft experience will prepare you to not fall for any other scammers in the future. Always listen to Spidey, Spidey knows all!😁👍

  • Not talking on the phone in general is one thing, but refusing is another. Anyone who is serious about cuddling wouldn't turn down a client offering another safety measure.

Be safe, be diligent, and be cautious!

  • Sorry that happened to you. 🩵

  • Sorry that happened to you.. this is the reason why no one should be giving a deposit to anyone whether you have a karma or two or three or four or five or none because the only one that stands to lose is the person that's giving the money

  • @marc89144 - Pros also get stood up by time wasters. It goes both ways

  • I'm sorry about what happened to you too.

As always, remember all that the only safety measure that works for both parts (unless sci-fi becomes real and beings can change shape) is to meet in a public place (a bar or similar, better if with security camera nearby).

  • I still stand firm on no deposits especially if the pro has no karma and doesn’t have a positive reputation.
