Interesting study published by U.S. National Institutes of Health

If this research was published by anyone else I am sure it would be dismissed as a “conspiracy theory”. I say that because I have read similar studies published by less esteemed researchers over 20 years ago and they were all labeled as conspiracy theories.

The National Toxicology Program (NTP), resides within the National Institute of Environmental Health Science, which in turn resides within the National Institutes of Health. The NTP just concluded an 8 year study and released a report confirming that Fluoride exposure can cause neurodevelopment and cognition problems - potentially lowering a child’s IQ by up to 5 points.

The U.S. has been putting fluoride in our drinking water since 1945.

I was not aware that there were so many other sources of fluoride.

  • Yep. There is a cumulative effect. You get some from municipal water, some from toothpaste, etc. it adds up over time.

I grew up on a farm and we had our own well. I know I didn’t drink fluoride in any significant amounts until my early 20s when I moved into a city and started drinking Municipal water.

I too was raised on a farm with our own well. Never heard of fluoride until I went to college.
I noticed they mentioned a study regarding the affects of too little fluoride. The results of such a study would be of interest.

  • "We need some new conspiracy theories. All of the old ones turned out to be true."

    So I've heard.

  • My parents always declined the fluoride for me at the dentist when I was a kid. I continued that practice as an adult, and always buy fluoride-free toothpaste.

I have turned total hippie when it comes to using natural products. From my soap to shampoo to toothpaste and deodorant, it is all very simple, all natural ingredients.

  • @JohnR1972
All for it so long as it's not the crystal rock deodorant; that stuff is useless! 😆

  • What brands do you recommend, and what store, or website, do you purchase them from?

  • Ditto. I would value John's opinion about what to use.

  • @SunsetSnuggles the key with the rock deodorant is to use some sort of acid on the pits before the rock salt. My previous job was fulfillment at Target where the goal is SPEED, so I regularly would sweat a decent amount. As soon as I started wiping with some diluted apple cider vinegar before the rock salt, all the stink went away. As a bonus, before I rinse out the ACV from my dedicated washcloth, I swipe my belly button which has taken care of the funk there (I wash that damn thing daily, and still…).

  • Also following for the recommendations on fluoride free toothpaste.

  • I read years ago to never buy toothpaste or mouthwash from a "dollar store," as they are usually made for countries without fluoridated water and contain significantly more than the US version. Over-fluoridating wasn't recommended then.

  • This will be interesting to check out when I get some time. Thanks for posting.

As to people wondering about fluoride free toothpaste, perhaps it matters if you actually eat it. Afterall, fluoride in water is ingested whereas toothpaste would be like 99+% spat out, at least in my case. I would be surprised if there was no safe level of fluoride as we have been constantly exposed to it at varying levels for, as far as I know, as long as life has existed.

I have a rock salt deodorant myself and it works quite well as long as I get it on right after a shower.

  • For toothpaste I use either “Silver Earth Paste Mineral Toothpaste” or Davids Toothpaste (davids-USA.com)

For shampoo and body wash, I use Trader Joe’s Cleansing & Conditioning Hair Wash (grapefruit & mint scent) and Trader Joe’s “Tea Tree Tingle body wash” (I get a lot of compliments about how clean that body wash smells).

For deodorant, I normally use the unscented crystal mineral deodorant stick. However, if I know I am going somewhere or going to be doing something where I expect to sweat a lot, I will use “Cris’s Blends Island Breeze Deodorant”

Those are my daily products. About once a week I also use a very small amount of “Honest Amish Pure, Unscented Beard Oil” and “Honest Amish All Natural, Organic Beard Balm”. I was using the beard stuff a lot more earlier this year when I let it grow out to about 6” long but Ingot tired of hassling with the long beard and I now keep it neatly trimmed to about 1/2” long.

I never wear cologne or aftershave.

That is it for my personal hygiene products.

  • @JasonCuddles & @CuddleHugs01234
You are welcome. There are probably some other good ones out there but I can personally attest to these work well for me and I feel good about their clean ingredients.

  • "Mandrake, have you never wondered why I drink only distilled water, or rain water, and only pure-grain alcohol?" 😅

  • ^ Props for the Dr. Strangelove quote.
