I can speak to exactly to prejudice in regards to being a red head. Prejudice i do have experience with but what ill ad here is that ginger has the same letters as an N word i won't type here. So if that's an indication of something there it is.
@Katota Thank You for your input-ignorance is universal, and I’m sorry your family had to deal with any medical misinformation et al. I know the practice of medicine is an art, but saying a human being doesn’t feel pain?
Actually, I truly appreciate ANY input, regardless of backgrounds. My ancestors came from all over the world; Latin America, Northern Africa, Asia, Northern Europe and even native North America.
My great-grandfather was actually murdered in the early 1900s by an individual solely because he didn’t like the way he (“mí bisabuelo”) looked.
Again, @katota, Thank You for sharing your story. If it’s OK with you, I’d like to include the aspect of “medical disinformation” your Mother told you about.
I believe the power of the written word can help, heal, and get curious minds to “think outside” their worldview.

I have a red haired friend with a very low pain tolerance, and she has also said that her Drs and dentists have told her it's in the"red headed gene". I had a neighbor for years that was a red head and she went gray super early. All that to say...your mileage may vary.

Thank You for your input-I truly appreciate it. I've consulted with several health professionals and the pain tolerance levels by genetic markers seems to be all over the place.

Years and years ago when Conan O'Brian took over the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, he had to move from New York to L.A.
He had a hilarious, self-deprecating bit about having to wear a full-length clothing and a hat whenever at the beach because, as he bemoaned, "I was genetically engineered to sit in a bog in Ireland."
I'm half Irish myself, but have dark blond hair.
@Firelighter I sorry you've had to deal with so much vulgarity and outright bad manners. I appreciate your sharing your story. It's unfortunate some people simply forget to, or blatantly denigrate they way you were born. My story will mention these types of "bad actors." The hair removal, dye issues are new to me. Thank You for the input.
@TxTom I actually saw Conan O'Brien in France about twelve years ago. He's very tall, and funny.
A reliable source (Journal of American Medicine) reported that fair-skinned red-hair people are better at absorbing that vital vitamin "D." The varied levels of pheomalanin is related to geographic origins thousands of years ago. Scandinavia is believed to have been the origin of the red-haired gene.
Due to the lack of bright sunlight at those latitudes, the skin composition makes maximum use of the limited sun light availability

I too am a child of the 80s and got the carrot top rejoinder. I also sadly had short red curls and got Little Orphan Annie every day of my life. How I hated my red hair! I also got called Casper a ton because of my white, white skin.
Thankfully as an adult, I love my hair. It used to be all the way down my back, and was so pretty. Covid destroyed it in 2020, but what’s left is still red. The pain tolerance thing is real! We need much more anesthesia and we bleed much easier.
