Falling in love?

edited September 2024 in Pro Cuddling

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on how to navigate a situation I've found myself in.

Over the past couple of months, I've had four two-hour sessions with a professional cuddler. Let's call her Amber. Since the beginning, conversation has been effortless and we have connected on a deep level. While I completely realize this is part of her job, there are so many compatibilities between us that are extremely rare. Ways we perceive and handle life, goals and aspirations, likes and dislikes, past experiences -- all in complete alignment. Our interactions almost feel magical.

If I had connected with Amber in any other context, I would have been head over heels for her long ago. Since this is a platonic professional cuddling relationship, I have suppressed my feelings and kept things platonic and professional. However, the reality is I am falling in love with her. We chit-chat a bit between sessions but I respect her time and keep it pretty minimal, although I would love to have her in my life every single day. I care for Amber deeply and want to support her, to express true love, and to intertwine our lives. She has every positive personality trait that I seek and cherish in a partner. I would want to change literally nothing about her, including her job. While I am not completely sure if it is a "professional platonic" facade, Amber does also communicate with me in a manner that seems to indicate that she has similar feelings towards me. Neither one of us has discussed any of this outright yet.

To provide some more context, Amber is not the first professional cuddler I have had sessions with. This is the first time I have felt this way though. I have thought this over a lot in the past couple of weeks and made sure my feelings aren't simply transference or attachment from the release of oxytocin. I've been reading threads on here and articles about this on other sites to ensure my perspective isn't clouded. I am extremely apprehensive toward romantic love due to past negative experiences and generally strongly resist it. This time is entirely different.

If I continue to suppress my feelings and say nothing, I feel like I will spend the rest of my life in regret, wondering "what if?" -- but if I do discuss this with her, it could mean either a blossoming romantic relationship or a complete end to what we currently have. I don't want to lose what we have, even if it means we can't be involved romantically. My head is spinning and I don't know how to proceed here. I want to be respectful of this professional platonic arrangement yet I cannot control how I feel.

Does anybody have words of advice? I would especially appreciate perspectives from other professional cuddlers who can imagine themselves in a situation like this.

Many thanks,
Scot

edit: To clarify, I do plan to tell Amber how I'm feeling eventually. Ultimately what I'm getting at is, how do I even approach the conversation? I want to be respectful and minimize potential discomfort for both of us.

  • You could let her know, but expect it to not go well and she may even stop taking you as a client. This isnt a dating site and professionals are here for a job and part of that job is to make you feel special in the moment.

  • Take a break from professional cuddling. This is likely to cause you more pain the longer you maintain this unrequited bond. Make extra effort to meet up with friends/family during the break.

  • You've been with her for a total of 8 hours.
    You are NOT in love, you are infatuated.
    Take a break.
    At the very least see a different cuddler for a while.

  • To the person who created a duplicate account to post this (and to others reading it): creating duplicate accounts is a violation of website policy.

  • I think you have to tell her at some point, even if it means losing her altogether. I've been in your situation a couple of times. Not with a professional cuddler, but with a woman who I was just friends with. I.e. platonic relationship. I was afraid of losing the friendship. It seemed like they liked me too. And I felt worse and worse until I told her. And neither time worked out for me. Hopefully it does for you.

    I just don't think unrequited love is sustainable. You're just going to torture yourself

  • Being lonely sucks. Dating websites, horrifying.
    This is not a dating website. I've met wonderful people on here that I've aligned and connected very well with. It's lovely, flattering at times even. Then boom, very uncomfortable. That cuddle friendship platonic sweet spot has been interrupted by somebody 's lust or infatuation. I am incredibly nice to everyone I cuddle with across the board but that doesn't make me someone that is girlfriend material. It makes me someone that's good at making connections.
    I bet the OP is also daydreaming about unlimited free cuddles. Here's a question for them...when this dream girl becomes (hypothetically) Yours, is she absolutely free to continue being a Pro cuddler?

    I knew someone who was pretty resentful after moving in with their professional cuddler and paying all the rent. He babysat whenever she had sessions. But he was always suspicious because she was a pro cuddler who clearly had non platonic sessions. Their breakup was not pretty. It's a high high to fall from. Honestly it was just a disaster waiting to happen.
    A long term ongoing cuddle friendship can have such a positive effect, I wouldn't jeopardize that.

    @Auroradream i fell head over heels for you when i met you. I know we only hung out for a couple of hours but damn girl i want to drop everything, move cross country and spend the rest of my life with you.
    Platonically speaking of course

  • The op has been banned.
    Did I miss something?

  • @MajesticMango girl, Anytime...you're family! I'm lucky you were awesome enough to come visit once.

  • @Allen1974 - He created a duplicate account to post that which violates the website's terms of service.

  • I’m lucky that I was able to go over in the first place! I still have your book on my bookshelf 🥹🫶🏼 @Auroradream

    Only the prerequisite flogging in the square.

    No reporting?

    According to OP, "Amber" is not on this site but someone he met through another platonic cuddle service (which is fine), and is asking here where he can get support from the community without discussing his feelings on the same platform she provides cuddles on. I would say continue the convo as if OP will have their account reinstated, if that ends up being the case.

    Banned? Bummer, I think I may have had something worthwhile to say.

  • Good lord

  • I say tell her. Life is too short to wonder if you actually found your person. 🩷 I think the risk of it being unrequited is worth it.

  • I have had a few Cuddle clients profess their feelings and how they were wanting a relationship with me. Both here and a prior platform i used to be on. If I was or was not interested in them in that way didn’t matter … I expressed to them that it wasn’t a good idea, that I am not even looking for relationship in my personal life. And I also told them we could no longer have sessions and that I felt it best for them to find a new pro to have cuddle sessions with. I was kind about it I hope they understood, I felt really really bad but it just wasn’t what I wanted. I was here to give healing cuddles in a professional relationship only. I reached out a few times after, just to check in and say hello but then let things fade off. Perhaps make some friends as well nothing more.
    If you decide to tell her how you feel make sure you are prepared to move on completely. Best of luck!!

    I think the risk of it being unrequited is worth it.

    There is some wisdom here but I think it applies to the larger world. You come here with an understanding that this is not a dating site. With that being said, there have been some relationships that blossomed from meeting on this site. But I have questions for the OP. Among them are:

    1. Have you done anything socially outside of cuddling?

    2. Have you shared a meal and just talked?

    3. Have you met anyone significant from her life outside of cuddling?

    4. Have you ever asked her what her assessment and impressions of you are?

    If 2 or more of these are no then you are not in love; you are merely infatuated. You are probably addicted to dopamine and oxytocin from cuddling with her. Real love usually takes time and sustaining it takes work. Love does not always give you rushes of feel good chemicals. You know you are in love when you get angry with them but realize you do not want them to experience the negative consequences of your anger because you just can’t bear to see them hurt by you in any way, so you pause and reflect on yourself. That’s love. It makes both of you better through respect and experience.

    And if you find out you love each other come back here and ask about marriage. Some people think love=marriage and that is what you are supposed to do because the assumption people make is love is a progression rather than just feeling the love at any given moment. Marriage is an extra layer of hard work that is even harder in today’s world. Don’t love that.

    I think what @TheFunCartel said pretty much sums it up.
    My personal opinion is you are not in love and it would be besr not to pursue it. But, if you do be prepared for rejection.

    First of all, thanks so much to everyone for replying and thank you to the moderation team for hearing me out with the appeal. I was banned for a few hours because it seemed like I made a second account to post this, but I met Amber through a different site and posted here for discretionary reasons. It was a simple misunderstanding and I could have been clearer about where we met in the original post. I very much appreciate the moderators for keeping everyone safe.

    This is going to get long but I would like to provide some necessary context and reply to you all.

    @Mike403

    I realized after posting that I should have clarified what I'm asking for here. I'm set on telling her, but I guess ultimately I would like advice for how to even approach the conversation. I want to be respectful and minimize potential discomfort. I promise I sought professional cuddling with pure, platonic intentions. My feelings toward Amber have naturally evolved and it was completely unexpected.

    @friendlyhugging

    Thank you, I will.

    @Mr_Cuddle_Bear

    You are NOT in love, you are infatuated.

    I respectfully disagree, but I do think taking a break is good advice.

    @billiam

    I just don't think unrequited love is sustainable. You're just going to torture yourself

    Absolutely agreed. I do plan to take a break but I do feel like it is necessary to tell her and see what happens at some point. I'm sorry things didn't work out for you in the past. Thank you for your well wishes.

    @Auroradream

    I bet the OP is also daydreaming about unlimited free cuddles. Here's a question for them...when this dream girl becomes (hypothetically) Yours, is she absolutely free to continue being a Pro cuddler?

    Yes, 100% absolutely unequivocably yes. Cuddling is a beautiful and transformative thing and I wish it was more widely accepted. I would be proud to have someone in my life who made such an impact on others.

    and:

    A long term ongoing cuddle friendship can have such a positive effect, I wouldn't jeopardize that.

    I truly do fear the demise of this happening which is the biggest reason I posted this thread.

    @gem7

    Banned? Bummer, I think I may have had something worthwhile to say.

    I sorted things out with the moderators, it was a misunderstanding. Please, do tell!

    @goodvibes1919

    I say tell her. Life is too short to wonder if you actually found your person. 🩷 I think the risk of it being unrequited is worth it.

    Thank you, I do plan to tell her eventually. Do you have any advice for how to approach the conversation? Obviously blurting out "I am falling in love with you" isn't the right move, but I don't know where to even start.

    @sage91436

    If you decide to tell her how you feel make sure you are prepared to move on completely. Best of luck!!

    Very wise words. Thank you very much.

    @TheFunCartel
    It's a no to the first three, and a yes to the fourth question. I haven't tried to connect outside of this context for the simple reason that I feel like things would get muddy with unpaid vs paid time. I fully realize the irony considering the reasons behind my post. I suppose it couldn't hurt to ask though.

    I don't believe at this point I am fully in love, which is why I carefully worded the OP as such, but I do recognize my feelings are moving toward love and want to prepare for whatever comes next.

  • Yes, you can let her know, but do expect your cuddling relationship to end. That’s if you don’t want to wonder about the ifs

  • As with all things we treasure in life, there is risk.

    Hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.

    You can also just wait it out for a while.

  • I would take a break from seeing her. Maybe either take a break from cuddling or go see another pro cuddler for a while. A little distance might help you cool things down emotionally.

  • If she was into you she would have made it obvious by now. You are almost certainly in the friend zone. Unless you are fully prepared to handle the rejection you should just move on

  • [Deleted User]gem7 (deleted user)

    The brain is the most outstanding organ. It works 24/7 365 right up until you fall in love.

  • She's a service provider and is likely treating you the same way she treats all her normal well mannered clients. Sometimes the feel goods get in the way of common sense. This happens in many helping fields , it's.called transference and when I was doing therapy I had to maintain rigid boundaries with my clients due to this phenomenon . I honestly feel like you'd benefit from taking a break from cuddling for a while and give yourself time to reflect from a distance.
