There are many, many folks who are quite proud of how offended they can be. They spend entire days seeking out things to be outraged by.
Earlier today, in fact, a Mod claimed most flags are dismissed.

@TxTom I wasn't the target, and yet, I could see that "generation bubblewrap" is very clearly an insult, saying that people in a certain age group are always too easily offended.
I'm sorry you lack the empathy to be able to see things from a point of view other than your own beliefs, and are so eager to be upset by something that you invent things to be outraged by. This isn't an insult, it's a description.
I especially love when random people use the term Karen as a catch-all for other random people who they don’t know personally but make a generalization & prejudicial judgement unrelated to the original meaning. I’m an open minded female, free spirit, peace-love-rock, slightly to the left leaning friend to anyone, who fought for women’s rights in the 70s, against racism and every other “ism”, the type later called hippies. I live a peaceful independent low maintenance life, not entitled to anything but wish for kindness. But because I’m older and white, I’m sure I’m lumped into that group and I find it to be laughable or annoying depending on my mood. ***I’ve been wanting to comment on the use of that name and how it’s used for a long time. No, not really at all @lonelytauros It’s used by some younger people labeling older white women as entitled racists without knowing anything about them. They’re often doing what they accuse others of. Now wondering if there’s a name for that behavior. Oh well time to put those type of people out of my mind and enjoy the day.

Back when I was moderating the forums I was putting a tag on anything I modified. I have never deleted a topic, and I would usually lock a thread if it got too off topic and people resorted to dominating the thread with name calling. We do hide posts, which to everyone else looks like it was deleted, but it’s not. And yeah, we can sink threads as well (where new comments don’t bump it). I mainly locked and would only hide them if it was really necessary. I almost never policed the forums though, with the exception of porn. Not that it matters since some people would claim biased action being taken regardless. If I saw something I would just wait until someone else flagged it. But then a thread came along and I got too “emotional” and I decided to call it quits. I do not miss it. Every moderator is going to use their judgement on how to handle something as most things seem to fall in a grey area in regards to the rules being broken.

I enlisted in the Marines as a teenager and served into my mid-twenties. I no longer have the body of the runner and collegiate wrestler that I used to be. But I still have a warrior’s training.
I also have PTSD*
My baseline of anxiety is very high. I experience stress more easily, more often, and more painfully than folks who do not share my condition. Things that healthier people can let roll off their backs can trigger an overreaction.**
Suggesting I practice selective vision is wrongheaded and irritating. But calling my entire generation fragile by referring to us as the “bubblewrap generation” is not just insulting. Them’s fighting words.
It’s also a cheap shot at me and my generation. That’s because A: I was already owning the fact that I flagged too many jokes, and B: my entire generation wasn’t flagging them. (As I stated, I was the only one who seemed bothered by them.)

Imagine a person in a wheelchair suggesting an elevator would help them navigate a space more easily. Would anyone say “try walking,” or, “In my day, people took the stairs, and I still take the stairs because I’m strong and resilient and unlike these legless elevator-babies who should just grow a pair (of legs, presumably).
== * My PTSD is medically diagnosed. But there are countless others who share my condition who don’t have access to mental health professionals, who can put their suffering into language that the gatekeepers and name-callers on this thread might recognize.
** Triggered is a medical term in this context. Like many such terms it is commonly used to mock people. If you’re using medical terminology to that applies to one person to insult someone else, please do better.
