How is it possible that I get a message from someone but they don’t show up on visitors tab? Should I assume it’s a scammer or hacker?
This is a very good question. I had to go back and look at a couple of messages. I have experienced this as well. I didn't think about it until you mentioned this. What is going on? How is this possible?
No, you should not assume anything bad. It does seem to happen occasionally. It might be a weird quirk deep in the programming whereby if certain events happen in a certain way then the 'visitors' tag doesn't get attached. Or something.
Must be a glitch, bug, snag, problem or system anomaly but not a hack or scammer IMO.

I would say I just try to be respectful and smell good.
I just did a test to see if my theory of this is correct.
You can send messages directly from your Friends list, as well as by replying to a previous message string with someone in your inbox.
This would only be strange if it were a first-time message.

The other possibility is when the message sender is muted. I think I remember hearing somewhere that a muted profile won’t show up in your visitors list either.
@ThaCapt I sent a message by visiting your profile and I also sent a message from the “favorites tab”
It’s possible that someone looked at you eons ago (since you’ve been here for a minute) but just messaged you from there.
I think it’s wise to be cautious as many people that get scammed though… it’s problematic! But hopefully it’s something far less awful and it’s just a GREAT FRIDAY SURPRISE!
Well for me we had never contacted each other before nor were we friends with each other. It was first time corresponding first time visiting that I know of.
They were just really drawn to your username and decided they wanted to be a crew member on your boat site unseen
I've assumed that if you view a profile directly from the message it doesn't show up. If you view from anywhere else it shows up as has viewed your profile, and i believe i message them first. I come the this conclusion because how often people message me without viewing my profile. I've asked this before in the forums and never received an answer.
So @ThaCapt and I figured it out!! Mystery solved.
Two things. I am “muted” which means I don’t show up in “search” but as I suspected I don’t show up as recently visiting a profile.
Also, if you message someone from the button in the “favorites” tab and send a message it doesn’t show. You might have visited a long time ago but you won’t get a current “visited you” showing.
So sleuthy. 😊
