I think about it a lot on the shower pt2

Is a midlife crisis a real thing?
If so can cuddling help or is it just a band aid until the crisis ends?

  • I already had a young life crisis. 😆 Let's hope a mid-life crisis isn't also heading my way...

As for if cuddling can help, that depends entirely on what one's crisis is about. Getting old? Finances? Losing older generations? Not achieving dreams?

Cuddling can be comforting, but it won't cure any of the above. They are things we must grapple with, work on, grieve, get counseling for, and eventually, accept.

  • @UglyDuckling For me midlife crisis was very real. It consisted of thinking about the rest of life… if it is gonna be exactly the same as what I’m doing, do I want it?

Caused me to change relationships, friends, habits, career…big shake up. Can cuddling help? I think so, because during a cuddle a lot of people are their most raw, authentic selves. More so than in the shower? Maybe. Giving voice to your innermost thoughts and truths and feelings to another human can help you actualize them. For some this happens in therapy, but for some the combination of touch seems to unlock some things.

For some the analysis of mid life makes them grateful for all they have and the answer is “yes, I love my life the way it is and wouldn’t change a thing.” For those the cuddling can just be an affirming experience.

Hmmmm, strangely for me cuddling seems to be the answer for everything. I may be a bit biased.

I try not to put pressure on cuddling to solve my problems. It can help you escape for a while, but you're still going to have the same issues when it's over.

  • (You're perfect) Yes, it's true.

  • Its a midlife crisis a real thing?

For some (possibly many) it absolutely is to at least some degree. When I was in my 20s I had an older friend (mid 40s) who went through some severe mental “challenges” that resulted in him taking a 3 month leave of absence from his job and he spent a couple of those weeks in an in-patient treatment program. Afterward he shared with me a little bit about what he went through and based on what he told me, I would consider that to have been a very difficult midlife crisis.

If so can cuddling help or is it just a band aid until the crisis ends?

As much as I enjoy cuddles and as helpful as I find them for deep relaxation, I think cuddling is probably just temporarily masking symptoms for someone dealing with a midlife crisis. However every person is different and for those struggling with a MLC, cuddling may help some much more than others.

  • Thanks.
I am wondering if its the universe or just me. Since it sound like it is out there and a possible challenge I will definitely prep mentally more and continue to keep things in their proper places.

I do believe I am being challenged with it. So its time to fight the good fight. Excercise my mind, body and spirit more!!!

  • @UglyDuckling
I'm sorry you're experiencing some challenges in this realm. I'm sure there are many, many others here who can relate.

  • Yes, for some people the midlife crisis is a real thing.

Yes cuddling can help, as it can in many circumstances.

No, cuddling is not intrinsically a 'band aid' although it can function very well in that capacity. The reason it's not a band aid is that it meets a real need of humans, and that need doesn't end just because of a few cuddles - it is a part of life. Remember what happens when babies receive no touch at all: they die.

  • I think Corvette is the epitome of midlife crises. In 2021, the average age of a corvette buyer was 61 years old.

  • Didn't read the article, but sometimes the age range would be related to the price and amount of expendable money. Someone with money to through around on a car younger may choose a much more expensive car. Never in my life have i ever considerer a car like a corvette, but in the years to come that may be something I'd consider. The mid life thing, it is something that happens i agree, but i don't think it's the car for a corvette. I happen to believe that it's aspirational and somewhat affordable considering the class of car.

Good to know because I figure I have ten more years before I hit the middle. My optimism is showing.

  • @BashfulLoner the Corvette reverts the midlife crises guys to a different mindset, thinking they're now 20-something immortal and irresistibly hot/sexy because of a car. Trying to relive their youth, creeping on women because "I gotta Vette." (Insert eye roll.) My dad owned 6 from the time he was 40.
I like to call them a Chevette. You know, the OTHER Vette.

  • That is a funny ass picture!!!! Im.crying laughing
