@pmvines nothing much outside of kkk, people being targeted and killed, politicians with no empathy and pushing division amongst folks.
Kinda like the Columbus topic and history
I know a joke about Columbus day.
Q. What's the best way to celebrate Columbus and honour his memory?
A. Get lost in a carpet warehouse looking for spices.
MLK invaded the minds, hearts and spirits of many foreign people, places and things( ig)

Liberals ruining Veterans Day?
Ooh. Tell us more!
@justwanthugs just so you know there are plenty of liberals that are veterans. And probably around half if the population identifies as liberal sir.
As a matter of fact as a person who isn't a veteran who sits on our veteran memorial plaza board with 4 very liberal gold star mothers, 2 liberal gold star wives that work closely with several very conservative veterans, one lady. I'd say your comment is rather divisive and I'm glad not representative of the people we hope to celebrate and memorialize.
I also don't identify as a liberal but embrace those that do in this country i reside, no matter the political environment. Thank tho.
I also made this comment as an attempt to enlighten not engage, god bless.
I'm a liberal and love our veterans . Liberals and Democrats alike love this country very much and love it's people. It's a false narrative created to be divisive by people who often have no interest in trying to understand how much in common we have who try to push the lie that we don't support and love our country. Conservatives do not own patriotism . There is no copyright or trademark. No matter how much some of their affiliates may falsely believe it to be so
Not bad, @CuddleDuncan . I like that one.
Just so you know, I have plenty of Veterans in my family, so I appreciate what sacrifices they have made for this country. However, they have not always gotten the support they deserve. If you’ve been paying attention, you would know. Like I said, I’m glad the holiday celebrating veterans hadn’t been denigrated yet. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if that changed in my lifetime. If you guys want to argue and take issue with that, do it on your own time and amongst yourselves, not in this forum. Moderators, pay attention.
Ditto. All he found was remnants.
Person calls out “liberals” and “politics” in the same sentence.
The hypocrisy is strong here.
Nothing to do really with Columbus Day, but this is my one and only favorite Vermeer painting, titled The Geographer. The Dutch were the premier seafarers in the 15th century. The model is an acquaintance of Vermeer and he was acting out role of plotting nautical routes.
To CuddleDuncan's point, is seems so many paintings feature draped carpets/rugs.
Of course, Vermeer is known for his use of the camera obscura in composing his paintings, a technique already nearly a thousand years old at the time.

You need to take a closer look at who is actively trying to reduce or eliminate support for veterans.

I don't see any arguing. Just people pointing out how ridiculous what you said is.
@IronLemon I have, maybe you should do the same. I have lost family members in combat, so I know personally who has provided assistance and who hasn’t. I don’t appreciate someone ignoring what I experienced or saying my reality is different. What I said was unfortunately true in recent history. I also said I hope it doesn’t continue, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it does. If you want to put your head in the sand and pretend it isn’t happening, that’s up to you.
How come it seems, ironically, that the only thread not to get derailed is the one about trains?

I don’t care what politics anyone aligns with. That’s your personal business. Just keep it out of the forums. If it seems like mods are picking sides, it’s only because one side flags way more than the other, and we generally only respond to forum flags, so most of the time (at least in my case), I only know which comments to address because I see a flag for it. We do not police the forums. I’m not reading every comment or thread. This is how the admins want us to handle this. Just flag political comments and even if I vehemently disagree with your politics personally, I’ll gladly remove it as it is breaking the rules.
If it seems like mods are picking sides, it’s only because one side flags way more than the other,
Very true.
Only side in a cuddle i see are right and left, close to the door or furthest from the window
@BashfulLoner I see the bed as a cuddle boat, so I only use the terms "port" and "starboard."
Fair. I hate to say the phrase that popped in my head as i read that, but it ins in storm
My cuddle boat's name is La Santa Maria.
So, very apropos.
Yeah that took away all the good momentum in this exchange, well done
@justwanthugs Columbus has been proven to be from the western Mediterranean, in eastern Spain. He was of in fact of Spanish origin, not Italian. Borders were more fluid back then, so spending time on Genoa or elsewhere would not have been out of the ordinary, especially for a merchant. He appealed to the monarchs of France, Great Britain, and Portugal alongside the Spanish for funding. Columbus would've taken any royal sponsorship offer.
@CuriousJoy I never said he was Italian. However, although studies have shown his DNA is “consistent” with Jewish origin, they cannot pinpoint it closer than western Mediterranean. We don’t know if he was Spanish or not. It really doesn’t matter where he came from, honestly.

@justwanthugs i agree. It’s sick to try and dehumanize or discredit someone by ancestry
@justwanthugs My post was not an argument if was literally me stating that liberals love our veterans as well despite what you seem to think. Just because I'm not a high fiving ditto head doesn't mean I'm arguing. Which I'm pretty sure the mods also notice and is why nobody has intervened on your behalf. Nobody is really arguing with you.
From Christopher Columbus to Rush Limbaugh in 2 days. Not bad, people. Im impressed, I expected worse.
Can we now take a break and save some of that ammo for the upcoming "Happy Thanksgiving" Thread?
