Wild Caught, Free-Range Cuddles... lol :)

[Deleted User]Homesteader (deleted user)

I got my guts squeezed out!!! Yaaaaayyyy!!! Wait, no... Hear me...

I was at karaoke at an undisclosed time and location (lol), and I was banging out my song, when I FELT someone's energy flowing in. I turned to see who this person was and, sure enough, there was someone there giving me what I like to call the "Predator's Gaze"!! Hahahahaha!! Lucky me!! lolol

I finished my song--- and yes, I ROCKED IT. Thank you!--- and went over to tell this person that I appreciated his appreciation! lol He was all fluttery and sputtery---WONDERFUL!!--- and told me how much he'd enjoyed my rendition of that particular song! :) Happy, happy me! :)

As we were talking, the dj put on a really cool song... I gently took his hand... He looked at me, looked at his hand, and back at me... Like he was checking to see if what was happening was really happening... Yeah...A WOMAN is asking a MAN for a dance!!

When it finally got through, he popped up out of his chair and came at me with open arms!!! This man squeezed my guts out!!! YAAAAAYYYY ME!! WILD CAUGHT, FREE RANGE CUDDLES for the win!!! :) :astonished:

We danced, I was squeezed to within an inch of my life, and I am STILL feeling the effects of it!!!

I told my fella about it and he said, "Oh, GOOD!" lol With all the relief in his voice of having been informed that someone had finally edged the lawn!! lolol

I'ma remember THAT magical song!!!

Have any of you ever experienced impromptu, wild-caught, free-range Cuddles? :)

  • I've got a few acquaintances with whom I'm familiar enough to go for the big squish hug, but never experienced wild caught cuddles quite as spontaneously as what you described. Beautiful story though!

@Homesteader I’m sure I’m not the only person these days that waits for absolutely crystal clear go ahead before I am willing to be physical with anyone. 😎

In a professional environment, even a pat the shoulder for a good job, something that I would be willing to do for both men and women, can be interpreted as an unwelcome advance.

A work friend mugged me for a hug before a meeting one day and she got written up for it by her employer because “she created a charged and uncomfortable environment for her coworkers”. Nothing sexual, just mutual respect and affection after working together for ten years. My employer just cautioned me and said don’t let it be you that initiates because we would have to act on a formal complaint.

A small part of me withered after that. I’ve been accused of being aloof since then, but better aloof than charged.

You made that guys day (or longer) by letting him know it was ok to be friendly and hug.

Edit: wow I posted that and reread it. Didn’t mean to be a downer on such a positive thread! Hopefully the next post tells another wild and uplifting story.

@interalia626 ~ Thank you! I love how you phrased what you and your friends do: big squishy hug!!! Yes, please!!! lolol Squishy...squishy...squishy... Yes... More, please!!! :)

@lovingspoonfull ~~ No no! Wait!! Your post wasn't a "downer"--- it was a clear reminder of just how "touchy" physical contact between people in certain situations can be. And you're right-- being considered aloof is FAR BETTER than getting slammed with a harassment charge!! Seriously, if he hadn't give me SUCH CLEAR SIGNALS, himself, I would NEVER have gone over to speak with him---- let alone TOUCH him, even on the hand!! So, thank you for sharing a very valid caution... because I'm STILL DELIGHTED ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED AND I CAN'T MAKE M...ahem... and I'm having difficulty thinking clearly... Still!!!!!!!! lolol
I sincerely hope I made his day!! The look on his face was PRICELESS!! Talk about a non-verbal compliment!!! :) I glanced at him, sideways, and smiled, like, "Come on..." He smiled allll the way across his face!! Delightful!!! And then proceeded to squeeze me to pieces for the WHOLE dance!!! hahahahahahaha!!!! I'm STILL AMPED!!! lolol

Surely, though, I can't be the only one who's experienced such a wonderful surprise cuddle-disguised-as-a-dance? :) Care to share? Please?? :)

  • I've had sort of the same thing (not the dancing though), coincidentally, after singing some karaoke song. One was just a couple weeks ago from an appreciative fan of musicals after I'd sung Jack's Lament (from Nightmare Before Christmas), and we ended up doing the duet All I Ask of You (from Phantom).

  • [Deleted User]Homesteader (deleted user)

@Vocalist100 ~ Thanks for the share!!! :) It's kind of cool when people come up to you, after you've sung, to express the excitement they feel from hearing you sing their songs, isn't it?? LOVE this!!! That's a whole 'nother thread, right there!! lol "Exciting Karaoke Reactions"!!!

Hey...maybe THAT'S what I've been doing wrong... I typically have LOUSY luck on here, so maybe I ought to be investigating the karaoke angle more...hmmmmmm....

I like the fact that you allowed her to join in on a duet with you, though! That showed SINCERE appreciation!! :) I also like this new thing of us women giving, as @lovingspoonfull suggested, CRYSTAL CLEAR SIGNALS OF AGREEMENT to you fellas... Hey, we still like y'all, and we can allll benefit from remembering that genuine, mutual consent is the name of the game...

But, oh, when it happens... :)

  • Saw a little girl fall into instant friendship with another little girl tonight while waiting at the gate for my flight. It was sweet as well as hilarious because the second little girl didn’t want to be grabbed, dragged over to the first. And hugged to within an inch of her life. 😳🤣

The mothers both mediated and all was well but this was a definite example of wild caught (careful what catches you) cuddling.

  • I gave a " free-range" hug to a new coworker I was meeting and it wasn't 2 minutes before he felt the need to tell me he was happily married. I was confused for a sec and then realized it was the hug. I've really got to keep this under wraps. Lol

  • @Dee1 you did a good thing 😀 social conditioning is a beast to overcome though; hopefully he thinks over it more and realizes it was no more than that, and is grateful for it.

  • [Deleted User]jimmylee (deleted user)

@lovingspoonfull @Dee1 I did something similar, in a very public arena (prior to a staff meeting). A week later I was called into HR to answer to sexual harassment charges. I was cleared, but required to do sexual harassment training. 🫤

  • @jimmylee @Dee1 I believe you. The corporate environment is basically sterile out of fear from our current legal framework.

I’ve seen some real problematic behavior that needed to be dealt with, especially early in my career, and I’m glad for it; but rational correction has shifted (thankfully not everywhere) into irrational overcorrection.

You could also simply not put your hands on coworkers in the work place.

If there was action taken or admonishment for it then it was likely because the other person complained about it. Which means there wasn't consent in the first place. If it's enough to make somebody feel uncomfortable enough to make it known they are married, or HR had to do an investigation, then it was unwanted touch which isn't good. You are making it about what you want instead of what is appropriate. Sometimes when you are in a bubble such as the one we are in on the site, we might become oblivious to norms and expectations and decorum, and even blame the other person or institution for rejecting your "free hug". But there are reasons we don't just go putting our hands on people.

Imajen my surprise---and delight---at finding that this thread came back to life RIGHT AFTER HAVING IT HAPPEN AGAIN!!! YAAAAAYYYYY!!! May I share? :)

First, though, "You could also simply not put your hands on coworkers in the work place." I take this advice VERY seriously, after working in construction for so many years. Thanks, @pmvines! My experience was in a social setting, though, and even then, I ONLY felt comfortable approaching the gentleman because he was over there being obvious with his "fan-hood"!! lol LOVED IT!!!! Although it may seem like the rules have become draconian, I've been in a situation where someone decided it was okay to RUB HIMSELF ACROSS MY BACK, like that was somehow normal or acceptable behavior... I was young, then. Wish he'd try that now...

On a much happier note, I got to experience another free-range cuddle, yesterday evening!!! Except I wasn't singing karaoke this time! lolol

My friend-group and I had popped in to check out the renovations done on a little place in a nearby city. As we were sitting there socializing, I once again felt someone's energy pouring in! lol I turned to see, and an elderly veteran was just sort of watching me. Okay...

A new song tuned up on the jukebox, and he made his way over to me. :) He asked if I'd like to dance.. Um, HELL YEAH!! lol We danced, and I squeezed him. He squeezed me back...Sooo very, very cool!! He was a bit shorter than I, so I scrunched down so his belly and my boobs could click into place like puzzle pieces (lolol), and we just danced... Just before the song ended, however, I whispered to him, "Welcome home, Soldier!" (Thank you, @pmvines, for that beautiful knowledge! :) ) He gripped me more tightly and just stayed right there... And I held on to him, too. Beautiful!!!

My friends and I had already decided to head to another place, before the dance, so when the song ended, I thanked him, smiled at him and returned to my group..

@lovingspoonfull told me, earlier, that it was possible that I'd made my earlier dance partner's day. That felt good :) I hope that was the case with this one, too, because he certainly made mine!! :)

Since the original post, has the Universe delivered Wild Caught Cuddles to anyone else?? Yes?? No?? Care to share??? :)

P.S., I would LOVE to have the experience of the second little girl, @lovingspoonfull !!! "I will call her 'Homesteader' and I will love her, and squeeze her, and..." lololol BRING IT!!! lololol

  • Definitely agree with what you said @pmvines

It’s a professional relationship with coworkers normally (unless you become BFFs outside of work) and we don’t know everyone’s preferences - as in being ok with friendly hugs or not.
Though women might hug each other in greeting, I think it’s obviously not the same with the opposite sex, it’s safer to avoid the HR office.
At my last job, the IT guy was a habitual hugger. A couple of the women didn’t take it too seriously but most everyone else thought is was so creepy. He was fired eventually for it, considered sexual harassment.

I should probably have made it clearer, in the original post, that I was referring to impromptu, happy, mutually-willing cuddles happening out in social settings... Got it..

Again, accepting full responsibility for how I walk in this earth, I would NEVER have even approached the first gentleman if he hadn't made his willingness to interact with me "crystal clear"!! :) Talk about getting a BIG "1" response!!! lolol

Am I the only one getting to have the awesome experience of wild-caught, free range cuddles in a social setting??? I have a resting b face that can weld metal, usually, so I'm kind of delighted that these flukes happen! lol Maybe it's just the Universe's way of gracing me with cuddles until Platonic Cuddling becomes more mainstream in Ohio... Okay! :)

    More, please!!! lol

Hey, @Katota ! Awwww... That's heartwarming!!! Don't you just love how children and animals seem to just KNOW that we ALLLL need a cuddle, now and then? :)

@g_w_t_w ~ Good point about the cultural differences.. I love the way that elders are respected and revered in other cultures! Glad, though, to hear that you have also had the joy of getting squished on the fly!!! Um... if you care to share...I mean, if it wouldn't be too much to ask... :) lolol

With this last experience, it felt good to have a gentleman remember his manners, and come and ask me to dance!! Now, if I could only drag my ...over the hurdle of normalizing approaching others ON HERE, I'd probably have a better chance of getting slow, lazy, ridiculous domesticated cuddles!!! :)

  • @Katota That is an absolutely wonderful gif 😁

It's ALIIIIIIIIVE!!! lol Just in time, too, because this wonderful, miraculous thing has happened again!!! And yes, karaoke WAS involved!!! lolol

I clicked my stilettos around the corner to enter the venue. On the front patio, there was a large group, seated in anticipation of the evening's festivities starting. I was walking by, trying to get inside TO BE THE FIRST ON THE LIST!! lolol As I was strolling past them, a gentleman called out "Homesteader!" Uh-oh... I'm thinking, "I don't know ANY of these folks!!" lol

Turning, the gentleman walked out from the group, smiling. There's that "Predator's Gaze," again :) I stopped and turned to face him. He said, "I was here, two years ago. Are you singing tonight?" Okay... I told him that yes, indeed, I fully well intended to rock some tunes, this evening, and that I hoped he would stay to enjoy it!! lolol (I can be the Star in the story I'm telling, right? lol) He smiled a big, happy smile and assured me that he would be staying..

Well, the night got started, and we singers were all lining up and encouraging one another. This gentleman sat RIGHT AT the edge of the area where we'd be singing. I'm LOVING IT!! lolol

So, I sing one of my warm-up songs, "Sundown" by Gordon Lightfoot. Upon finishing, he's beaming! "I LOVE that song!!" And he squeezes my guts out!!! :) "I'm soooo glad you liked it!!" And he squeezes my guts out, again!!! It's at this point that I realize that MY ENTIRE EVENING IS GOING TO BE GREAT!!!! :)

Son, we danced, laughed, talked, and he even sang a song with me!!! While side-squeezing me to within an inch of my life!! :) I took it like a champion, too!! lololol

One of my friend-girls and I always join to sing, "Peaceful, Easy Feeling," because we call that "our song." My precious Squeezer was "hurt" that HE didn't get to sing that with me!!! I thought that was adorable!!!

I'm beginning to think that I should just save up alllllll of my Cuddle Hopes and take them with me to karaoke nights!!! lol
Oh, and he REALLY enjoyed my rendition of Bob Seger's "Turn the Page"!!! I'm LOVING this!!! lolol

Surely, surely, there are others who've experienced wild-caught, free-range Cuddles??? I'm STILL waiting for the experience of @lovingspoonfull 's pic featuring the "I will love, hug, and squeeze" dynamic!!!

Anyone else care to share?? LOVE to hear about it!!! :)

  • Yeah, went on a date a few weeks ago, saw an outdoor circus show.

Then we sat at a park cuddling and people-watching.

    And @Homesteader , You’re on Fire 🔥

  • [Deleted User]Homesteader (deleted user)

@DaveLaughs ~ Hahaha!! Thank you! :) I'm still amazed at how often this thing has begun to happen!! lol Is it the music? I'll have to do a great deal more research in this area!! lolol
Thank you for sharing about your experience, too!! An outdoor circus AND cuddling AND people-watching??? THAT SOUNDS AMAZING!!! I'm glad you got to experience it!!

    Thanks, again, for sharing!! :)

    @pmvines

That may be so. And in the case of @lovingspoonfull, technically it was not consensual. He stated that this woman "mugged" him for a hug. That means she did not ask, which means she did not properly obtain consent.

However, it is worth noting that @lovingspoonfull is not the one that filed the complaint. In this case, it was a third party.

It is important to note that even if a hug IS consensual in a workplace environment, you could still get in trouble, for two reasons.

    1. Consent could be withdrawn retroactively, which I think is a travesty of justice, but it happens all the time. Just because they consented, it doesn't mean that they didn't feel uncomfortable. They could still file a complaint even if they verbally consented to a hug. If they felt uncomfortable, the fact that they verbally consented would not be a defense.

    2. Even if the person that you hugged felt comfortable, a third party could still feel uncomfortable. Someone witnessing the hug could still file a formal complaint and get the person that initiated the hug written up (or even both parties, if both parties were equal participants). Even if they weren't directly involved in the hug and were only a witness, they could still get you fired.

  • In the corporate environments I've experienced, especially in large Fortune 30 companies, hugging was strongly discouraged. This was often due to concerns about harassment or the perception of favoritism, particularly for those in leadership positions.
