Cuddle vs spooning

I've been seeing a lot of pros talk about no spooning only cuddles or spooning is allowed and stuff but serious question ..aren't they both the same? Like if you're cuddling aren't you spooning? I'm serious..like what's the difference

Two people can hug & cuddle in many different ways without ever spooning.
You could try a google search of different cuddle positions that include illustrations for examples.
My interpretation of Platonic hugging mostly involves arms and upper body contact. Spooning involves full body contact and I get why some women don’t want that with a man they met for the first time a few minutes ago.
I guess, unfortunately spooning might become an opportunity to push boundaries
In Some Cases - Not All Cases.

  • All spooning is cuddling, but not all cuddling is spooning. I’ve seen a million profiles here, but never that said no spooning, that’s odd.

Spooning is just one type of cuddling, but probably the most common. Like @WestsideMarc, I’ve never seen a profile that said no spooning. Most people don’t talk about cuddle positions at all, they just do whatever feels most comfortable at the time.

  • There are a million ways to cuddle, of which spooning is only one. It is a very common way, and I've never heard of a professional who would not spoon the client. There are professionals who decline to be spooned, that isn't rare. And of course there are plenty of professionals who are delighted to be spooned.

There is a little book called the Cuddle Sutra which describes a number of cuddle positions. It's not very good but it's quite pretty in its own way, and is better than nothing.

Not all cuddling is spooning and not all spooning is cuddling just like not all sleeping is snoring and not all snoring is sleeping

  • This is a cuddle site, so spooning is okay.
This is not a dating site, so no forking.

  • @txtom I was thinking no sporking.

  • As a woman (pro), no spooning with someone I don't know is also my caveat. Being in front aka little spoon is a very vulnerable position to be in with someone who has a ::eggplant emoji:: If someone wants to be the little spoon, that's fine. There are times when arousal happens and depending on the person they may talk about it or try to pursue that energy and that is not what pro cuddling is about, so I have to find gentle ways to diffuse it. I hope this clears it up for you, maybe you never really thought about the precarious situations that arise when we are alone in a bed with a stranger.

Spooning is a little weird to me. You’re just kind of stuck. You can’t easily talk. If you move your hands around at all you will probably contact something you aren’t supposed to. You get a face full of hair. The other person can’t hug back. You can’t hug tightly. You can only just lay in one position and not do anything. Not sure what the draw is.

  • I think spooning is unfortunately rife with negative connotations in this field.
However, I offer a different view. Spooning can be quite comforting (when consensual and platonic). Being wrapped up and hugged without having to hug back. Or being able to squeeze yourself around a warm being, tucking your legs under theirs.
There is definitely a level of intimacy that perhaps you build over visits or your are open to as a hug provider. But spooning can be very healing and fulfilling without seggsualizing it. 😌

  • I agree with @WestsideMarc

All spooning is cuddling, but not all cuddling is spooning. I’ve seen a million profiles here, but never that said no spooning, that’s odd.

I have never even seen this come up before.

  • Spooning is just one of many positions in cuddling. It is not the only one. Everyone basically said the same thing in different ways.
But I especially like what you describe @TallDarkCocoa and is the reason that spooning is my favorite position. It makes me feel protected.

  • Spooning is super cozy and feels natural for many, but other cuddle positions can evoke different vibes like sitting side by side, resting a head on a shoulder, or even a comforting bear hug. Each one creates its unique connection. That said, spooning is like the "comfort food" of cuddling! 🥰

  • Being the little spoon (usually holding their hand) has always made me feel safe. I can just passively be, knowing that someone has a hold of me and won't let me fall.

Being the big spoon also is nice. Then I'm the protector and comforter, with someone who trusts themselves to me. And yes, big spoon cuddling someone from here is a little different from big spoon cuddling a girlfriend, but not really all that much different.

  • Central to this piece is about comfort, boundaries and communication. I respect those who say no to being little spoon or spooning. The key is about how you two talk about your time together and clear about boundaries too.

Not everyone is going to gel and there can be other issues around hygiene and etc. I have meet a pro who was neither freshly showered and smelled like weed when they arrived. I just paid her for her time rather than cuddle - too many red flags.

Cuddling is not transactional ie pay to see a pro and you get full cuddle position menu with everyone. My experience is that it is not the same with everyone person I cuddle with. - cuddling is close and personal so be kind, respect boundaries and great hygiene and talk over your time together.

  • Dang! First time I ever heard that the book "Cuddle Sutra " is not very good. Yeesh, I sometimes hand those out as gifts to cuddlers. 😕

  • @hoosierdan76 I had a similar conversation recently about spooning. Hair is in the way, hands are awkward, just not comfy for me. Plus, it can be difficult for me to hear if my good ear is covered.

  • I always worry a little about the big spoon’s arm going numb and also I will make sure my hair is clean and not wild for spooning but if it’s all done right (no grinding please and thanks) it is the most relaxing for me. I hold their hand in mine so they don’t have to worry about where it rests.

One of my observations about folks who are paying for cuddling, they don’t want spooning. I was a bit shocked when I was a new pro, as I thought it would be a standard cuddle position tried through out a session. In all the hours of cuddling I’ve probably spooned for less than 30mins.

The vast majority of dudes prefer “face to face” cuddling and explicitly state so when I start a session and ask preference questions.

In my non-pro (civilian 😆) cuddle life, I spoon all the time.

  • @Jkay in the cuddle session that I've done it was face to face which I like but also my preferred cuddle position is her head laying on or near my chest and me wrapped around with her legs on top of me..sorry if that was a weird description but that just feels comfortable to me and most soothing. And then the obvious "spooning" if we are not talking or just having a random conversation and it's just music playing
