Excessive Forum Flags

@JoyfulHeart Has the site ever considered removing people with excessive flags?

Meaning, a thread gets locked down because there are too many flags. Content is sometimes removed sometimes not.

Are some individuals flagged more often? Is there a consequence for that?

If we're about cuddles and the cuddle community, it seems like its not the place for some people think it's a place to express their frustrations with the world. For me, it brings down the vibe.

    Personally, I'd rather offenders get removed than have legit threads locked. My guess is that's it's the same people over and over across multiple threads who are getting flagged. There are a number of people here who can't play nice and my choice would be that they are given a timeout. And if they keep violating the same rules, then they get shut down. It's not that hard to play by the rules and be respectful. I was disappointed to see the other thread just get locked down

    However, I know the mods have a difficult job here and I am not criticizing them. But I do think their job would be easier if there were actual consequences for the behavior some make over and over.

    We don’t live in a utopia. People are gonna disagree, get upset, etc. You’re never gonna be able to control or force someone to think or say what you want. It’s been said here 100 times before people write their own karma, but you know what I still admire those people that stand up for what they believe. People just gotta remember to not break tos.

    I am OK with people voicing their frustrations with the world though. And I think there should be threads where people can talk about politics or religion. But keep it in threads devoted to those topics.

    Freedom of speech is a right in this country but it comes with responsibility too.

    @TeaCuddle opened "mental health" with all good intentions and now thread locked instead of time outs being issued to those who got political or otherwise trolled.
    @JoyfulHeart you promised timeouts few days ago. But again you lockd a thread instead of issuing time outs

    @billiam, I appreciate your perspective. It is a hard job, for sure. I like the “time out idea.”

    @lonelytauros seems like a handful of people have common statements, over and over that are against the rules. Not one, but a theme & pattern. Agree 100% its great that people speak.and make a stand for something, instead of nothing.

    At same time, its a bit of a eyeroll to read the same thing from the same people over and over and over again.

    I don't know what the mods are allowed to do or not to do. Again, I'm not frustrated with them. Not at all. I'm frustrated with certain people here who make it hard to have a fulfilling conversation. I don't post all that often becuase of it. It's always the same people too.

    It's often less about those who are flagged and more about those who excessively flag . And I personally feel like that's a big waste of the mods time . They aren't feelings police. So what happens is often action is taken on a flag not because they have egregiously broken a rule, but because someone was offended or in some cases, playing hand slap with people they don't care for so they report out of spite. Or they miss being hall monitor and this makes them feel like powerful grade schoolers .

    It's also a little dumb to think that people aren't even going to be fired up after Tues. Even though political posts are against TOS, we are all very much affected by presidential election outcomes, especially this one . We are whole ass human beings, and the emotions felt for some of us are impossible to ignore right now.

    I could be wrong, some content that is NOT blocked leans one way. The other content, (opposite perspective) well, hard to find. Does it get blocked more often?

    In essence, this side is okay, that side not okay?

    No, mod edits should not reflect our personal beliefs. It can depend on the mod that chooses to take action on something, but one side shouldn’t be silenced over the other. I haven’t been paying much attention to the forums so I don’t know the current state.

    @CharlieBear I could be wrong, but imagine if you audit locked threads, youll see a theme of content that is left, versus blocked.

    I have said plenty but it appears that way because one side flags a lot more. When I’m handling flags, I’m just looking at the flagged comment. I am not reading the entire thread every time a comment if flagged. This is purely volunteer and we don’t police the forums. I see a popup, click the link, make an edit (or pass) and move on. Other mods may handle it differently.

    I personally do not care where anyone is on the political/religious spectrum. I just want the threads to stay on track. I don’t think bickering about these things on the forums helps at all, regardless if it is in alignment with my views. Some hit harder when it’s actually cuddle-related though.

    I'm stuck. Still trying to understand why some would think spooning is not cuddling. Maybe crosses a line for some, but its still cuddling, in my opinion.

    @pmvines @CharlieBear I expected (and also accepted )mild cases of TDS to be on display after Tuesday . And I was sincerely happy with it being allowed , until ithings unfortionately got derailed and escalated. Few threads got shut down due to post Tuesday commentary. Because people kept going in other threads

    I could be wrong maybe @Mark made the terms of service so no one cared where others are at on the religious/political spectrum.

    I remember a study years ago, a gym chain stopped showing the news on TV’s. Found the it lowered stress, no matter the station, producing better mindsets.

    I'm still confused why political threads were allowed during the 2020 election. Enforcement seems to be inconsistent.

    I'll echo Charlie's statement that the political lean direction does not influence what action I take on threads. The forum rules are my guide, and those rules don't say anything about allowing one viewpoint to get special privileges.

    As I evolve in this role, I've been more inclined to allow things to remain visible unless they are particularly aggregious. My thinking is that if someone wants to see how close they can get to a boundary in the forum, it might say something about them that is useful for other members of the cuddle community to know.

    Additionally, if you flag a thread and come back later and break the same rule that you flagged for, it doesn't strengthen your case.

    There are strong feelings on both sides of the political aisle. During an actual cuddle, there exists the possibility of embracing one another both literally and figuratively because of our shared humanity. On the forum, that embrace can only be figurative, but it's still possible.

    Let's consider porcupine attire to be one of the undesirable clothing options for this forum.

    All this is said in love and care. I'm a moderator because I believe in this community and the people in this community.

    @Mike403 consistently is key.

    Some mods don’t even like policing forums, I get it 100%. Plus it’s a waste of their time and energy when it’s needed for platonic cuddling, keeping the site pure.

    Maybe have forums be paid by users use those funds to pay for someone to “keep watch” and maybe even have a “no mod” area?

    The problem with the political discussions is that some people will express worries and concerns, and other people will bait them by being completely dismissive and insisting that everything is great and their worries aren't real.

    Is "this country" pertaining to the UK? Because this site is neither owned by an American citizen, nor registered in the United States. It is a privately-owned site and isn't bound to US laws.

    I empathize with the mods. Some of the poor behavior has got to be frustrating to deal with. But i do also get frustrated by threads being locked by the poor behavior by a few. I mean some of the threads that have been locked had great intentions and valuable dialogue aside from some of the same bickering. Although a few like to insert politics in every discussion, i mean mental health, and Disney ( that one particularly annoyed me) something is wrong with these people. I'm sure we can always guess who is flagging and who is being flagged, so these people know what they are doing and how it affects to the rest of us. Those folks should be addressed. These people always find a way to fight with everyone on any subject.

    I'm not suggesting anything other than avoiding locking threads. I'd rather see any other option.

    But we should also consider the mental health of people that always pick these types of fights. Because it's more than having an opinion. It's an incessant need to bully an idea. This behavior happened long before Tuesday. Maybe that made certain people feel emboldened and others feel hurt. At any rate those behaviors are ruining it for the rest. Stop them.

    I have found the forums to be a great place to make friends and meet like-minded individuals. I know I have travelled to cuddle people I have met in the forums. So they can be great to meet people that are not local. Especially fellow enthusiasts when messaging doesn’t get a response.

    It’s just the constant bickering that really drags the forums down, at least for me. I fall on a certain sides of some of the issues brought up here, but there are so many other places online to go discuss those things on sites designed for it (and where very little or no moderation exists). Here it is different because we are actually looking to meet one another in person. These forums are just not meant for the heavier discussions. New members join wanting to be part of this exciting new community for them and on their home page is forum posts that just seem to be aimed at tearing people down. We can’t have that. The general forum especially since those topics are on full display for everyone on here. Just please try to be mindful of what the purpose of this site is and why we are here. It’s not about discussing elections or the economy or the job market or any of the divisive hot-button issues we have. Just go to a place like Reddit or something for that.

    People will always want to bicker and complain somewhere. Biggest problem is that these threads get blasted on the homepage for all to see. If there was a less visible off-topic section somewhere, it wouldn’t be as big of a deal.

    Seems like it’s the same few that interject and then after a little of time “lock”. You are spot on Mental Health is a great example on that should be left open. My issue is there is a theme and can’t tell if those same few that interject have consequences.
