  • @natelm21 Thanks for sharing this unique insight, breaking down stigma through sharing diverse cultural examples and advocating for men to value their mental health through the pursuit of affection, friendship and community in shared, safe spaces. 👏👏👏

  • How would you define the word bromance?

I don't define it, and I don't even use it verbally.

But I enjoyed reading other's responses on this topic, just the same. 😁

  • @zalea thanks 😊 i couldn't help it... once I started couldn't stop lol

@Katota I hear ya. I don’t even like the word bro because I left high school many moons ago. I call my male friends what they are; and people may talk and this may be unpopular, but I call them “friends”.

If I called one of my friends bro, I would get punched in the nose.

  • I have several very good friends that I'd trust with my life---they're almost like family to me. I have no desire to cuddle with them.

Some people on this site just seem unable to relax until every dude is cuddling other dudes.

    Nothing needs to be "destigmatized."

  • I call people bro, but they are people I'd consider brothers. If a lady called me bro everything would be different. When a kid called me bro it's a problem.

  • @TxTom this is correct. The fact i don't want to cuddle men is not because of an idea about men cuddling men, it's just something i don't do. I don't cuddle horses either, if read people bring that up in here.... doesn't interest me at all. I do t have a dog but my ex had a poodle once and she use to jump in bed me with and i pet her while we rested, not a big deal to me. But I'd prefer not to cuddle dogs. I hope that isn't offensive to anyone, just how i think about it. I also have been known to squeeze a pillow..... i don't know what that means but i wouldn't buy a pillow in order to squeeze it.

The word is not in my vocabulary. I'm too OG to consider "inclusion" of the concept of being that close to a man. My closest relationships have been with women who bring out more of the male within me.

Before this, there was only one mention of cuddling in this entire thread. It was used as an example of what a bromance might be. No one was saying what you seem to think they were saying.

Methinks thou doth protest too much.

You can accuse me of a bromance but I'll never accept bro science created by ignorant dudes in the gym.

@Alan2018 I think you’re confusing bros with the rarer and more aggressive subspecies dude-bros.

Or possibly even the juiced up and the even more flamboyant dude-bro meatheads.

@lovingspoonfull which kind of bro does one ask not to get tased by?

  • Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are my example of a bromance. Matt even did a Dunkin commercial with Ben. Maybe even Clooney and Pitt. Longtime guy friends who can joke and be playful, not always macho.

    @starrynitecuds
I agree. But I would consider them best friends.

Perhaps the word bromance has been introduced because the word friend has been cheapened a lot lately, and doesn't carry the same weight anymore. I'm thinking of endless internet "friends," though most are people one may have never met.

So, personally, I use the word acquaintance a lot, meaning someone whom I know and like, but I don't consider to be a friend. And that's because to me, a friend is almost like family.

  • @jubal 😀👍 great question. Hmm… I’d have to say bro. They’re more vulnerable when not found in pairs.

@starrynitecuds I think there’s too much social baggage with the term to use it on positive examples. They’d probably just call themselves friends. But I will say the mental picture of those examples chest-bump hugging and yelling bro at each other is pretty funny!

    No offense intended.

Saying "No offense intended" does not make homophobic comments inoffensive. -JoyfulHeart (Moderator)

  • Ben has remarked about Jennifer Garner questioning their friendship because they'd see each other so often. They no qualms about hugging publicly or draping arms over shoulders. Or dressing up ridiculously to support the other. Or laughing at their friendship.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s Bromance Through the Years
2010: At the Cinematheque Annual Gala Honoring Matt Damon
Affleck shared some kinds words about his partner in crime in Beverly Hills on March 27, 2010. "Ben is half of one of the greatest love stories ever told -- not with me," Jennifer Garner joked onstage. "They're the actual prototype for the great Hollywood bromance: Matt and Ben, Ben and Matt."

  • I am not homophobic at all, and I do not appreciate anyone accusing me of this. I do not make homophobic remarks. I don’t know why someone misunderstood.

  • I date men and have been out of the closet for decades.

@SteveMe I read your post and could not figure out what you were saying.

  • Are you familiar with the homie sexual movement that I am in?

  • [Deleted User]gem7 (deleted user)

    No

  • That explains it. But now I have a fear to post any more. I have gay friends, and they understand me.

  • @SteveMe Perhaps you could explain homie sexual. I've never heard of it either.

  • [Deleted User]gem7 (deleted user)

@SteveMe I have gay family and friends also but I still don't know of what you speak.

  • [Deleted User]WriterGF (deleted user)

According to Google, homiesexual involves sexual attraction to a friend of the same gender, usually involving people who had previously thought of themselves are purely hetero.

  • That actually sounds kinda sweet. (And by kinda, I mean very)

  • I am really curious of the redacted because I'm confused

  • [Deleted User]gem7 (deleted user)

Ok, I get it and I agree with IronLemon. I just did not understand his post and sounds like the mod didn't either.
